Position Summary
The Logistics & Storage (L&S) Product Quality (PQ) team is part of the Environmental, Safety, and Security & Product Quality (ESS&PQ) component within the L&S organization. This team supports a dynamic and geographically diverse group, including Terminals, Pipeline, Marine, Transport, and Rail organizations. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide technical support, guidance, and oversight to ensure MPC consistently delivers high-quality products throughout our integrated system. This is achieved by collaborating closely with all levels of operating components and internal and external support organizations. The selected Product Quality Advisor will support the mission by providing innovative leadership and technical support through quality-related initiatives and operational process improvements. Strong communication and critical thinking skills are highly valued. This position offers regular exposure to various MPC business units.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance for correcting off-specification products.
- Share on-call responsibility with the team in one-week rotations, covering one week every seven weeks on average.
- Perform quality audits autonomously or in groups within MPC facilities.
- Maintain regular contact with assigned facilities and conduct strategic site visits.
- Lead or participate in PQ responses and investigations to rectify product quality issues, determine causes and contributory circumstances, confer with appropriate leadership personnel, and assist with developing innovative solutions and process improvements to prevent recurrences.
- Lead, support, and participate in cross-organizational work groups and PQ related initiatives to develop, maintain, and continuously improve quality standards, procedures, and practices.
- Initiate and coordinate the development of quality knowledge documents, information manuals, presentations, training materials, programs, and communicate subject matter effectively.
- Identify and facilitate cost reduction and revenue generating opportunities and synergies within standards, processes, procedures, and projects.
- Participate and represent PQ on teams and projects.
- Stay abreast of new developments related to organizational operations, establish and maintain contact with appropriate representatives of other companies, manufacturers, and governmental agencies to gain knowledge which could affect the organization.
- Work with personnel at all levels across MPC and external stakeholders to effectively implement improvements. Anticipate and identify quality issues and develop solutions to address and resolve them while considering the impact on other business units within the company. This may include gathering and analyzing business and operational data.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Major Discipline: Business, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental, or Science
- 2 years of related experience
- Strong working knowledge of midstream operations
- In-depth conceptual and practical knowledge of L&S product quality requirements
- Ability to lead root cause analyses and investigations.
- Experience using Fuel Facs is a plus.
- Experience creating and modifying PowerBI
Travel & Location:
- Travel Required: Up to 20% and MPC offers a hybrid work schedule.
- Locations: Findlay, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, or La Palma offices preferred, other MPLX locations will be considered
