Company Description

Ko wai mātou | About us

Ko tā Contact e whakapono nei, ko te taiao tonu te taonga nui katoa o te ao.

Koinei mātou e whai atu nei kia mahue atu i a mātou tētahi ao hauora ake, tēnā i te ora i kuhu ai mātou.

He pakihi whakarato hiko, ipurangi mātou, engari arā kē atu anō ā mātou taha.

Kei te whakawhanake mātou i ā mātou mahi ake, i ngā ara hoki e whai hiko ai a Aotearoa, kei te kōkiri kia tukua te hiko tukurua, ā, kei te whakaputa i tētahi wheako matihiko mō ā mātou kiritaki kāore anō kia kitea i tēnei whenua.

He tīma kotahi mano mātou nō ngā hau e whā, e ngākau nui ana ki ā mātou mahi, e aroha ana tētahi ki tētahi, e ako ngātahi ana, e whakapono tahi ana ki ā mātou tikanga ārahi: mā te manaaki kia toa, ka mana te katoa.

At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. It's all part of our vision to leave Aotearoa better than we found it. We’re an electricity, gas, mobile, and broadband company, but we’re so much more than that. We are transforming the ways we mahi, and how Aotearoa is powered, leading the charge on renewable energy and digitising customer journeys in ways not yet seen here. A team of 1000+ from all walks of life who love what we do, look out for each other, and learn from one another every day, we’re stoked to be guided by our tikanga: we touch lives to make life better.

Over the past three years our Retail rōpū have done heaps to bring our mobile and broadband offerings to market, complementing the electricity and gas products you probably know us for. There’s more where that came from, and as we position ourselves for an era of growth, we are dialling up our focus on innovation, experiences and brand, while developing market leading capabilities in data and operational performance. With our Product Owner off to an exciting new role in the business, we’re looking for a new Product Owner to serve as the primary liaison between our customers, stakeholders, and the people doing the work (our squads).

Job Description

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role

Reporting to our Ways of Working Manager, as Product Owner you’ll help bring our strategy to life by bringing clarity to what it is we need to do and how best to do it. Loudly and proudly the voice of our customers, you’ll lead a squad to shape the product or solution vision, define requirements, and ensure what we deliver is bang-on. Day by day you’ll make critical decisions, prioritise and define user stories, and inspire our squads to deliver value to our customers by connecting our daily work to our strategy.

Most of this team is Wellington-based so it would be great if you are too (they get together in the office every Wednesday). Stakeholder management skills are crucial as is online collaboration with many of your stakeholders dotted around the motu (we use Teams, Miro and JIRA). There’ll also be presentations so confidence with public speaking is a must and communication skills will be key as you connect the dots between technical and business people to bring alignment and clarity on the path forward.

The exciting stuff our award-winning Retail rōpū are doing and the general Contact vibe are drawcards that bring people in and keep them coming back. Our Welly head office is newly refurbished, full of great people doing great things, and development and growth is encouraged. In the wider Product space, we’ve set up a Product community across Retail and Tech where people and product roles come together regularly to share learnings and insights and sometimes have guest speakers. Feedback from these sessions has been awesome and they’ve made an already collaborative mahi (work) environment that little bit tighter.

We’re on a mission to decarbonise Aotearoa and doing some very cool stuff to get there. This won’t just be great for your career, it’s great for Aotearoa.

Qualifications

Ko wai koe | About you

We’re on a journey with our ways of working, so while we’re looking for epic Agile experience (no pun intended), it’s important you understand we’re not fully there. You’ll be across multiple strands of work within the squad, so prioritisation and communication skills will be key. You’ll be working with subject matter experts but need to have broad oversight to be able to steer things in the right direction and push back when required – there’ll be some tricky conversations among the many fun ones, some resetting of expectations, and a lot of translation between the code-focused technical folk and the strategy-focused business folk.

Experience working with a distributed team across multiple locations would be a big tick, as would problem-solving and critical thinking abilities. To really hum in this role, you’ll need an analytical mindset with the ability to use data and feedback to drive product decisions, but more importantly: EQ. You’re the kind of person others look to as a natural leader, energetic and authentic with a high degree of integrity, work ethic, and the pizzazz to make work fun.

Additional Information

We support our people to work how, where and when works the best. To get the most out of this role, there’s a real advantage to being in or near Wellington, but it’s important to note we’re big on flexible working and you can make your hours work for you.

Contact is not a place you’ll stagnate. We are growing and offer superb learning and development opportunities along with a bunch of other perks like free health insurance cover, better-than-your-average leave, access to Contact Shares, a ‘Good to be Home’ annual payment toward your home set up & wellbeing, a trail-blazing parental leave policy, discounts on Contact Energy products, and more.

This ad will close automatically on Monday 17 February but we’re considering applications as they come in so hop to it if you're keen, or if there's something you’re curious to know first, reach out to Tash on [email protected].

Please note, only candidates with the right to live and work in New Zealand will be considered for this role.

Research shows that while men apply to jobs where they meet 60% of the criteria, women and those in underrepresented groups tend to only apply if they tick every box. We're not about box ticking, so if you think you have what it takes but don't meet everything stated above, please still get in touch. We'd love to kōrero.
