About BeatStars

Since 2008 BeatStars has been the pioneering and go-to online music marketplace to connect millions of recording artists and music producers worldwide. BeatStars is also the leading artist discovery tool for all the major and independent labels. Most recently, BeatStars partnered with Sony Publishing to launch its publishing arm on the platform.

Now, with over 3 million monthly active users, we've paid over $350M to our creator community. We continue to support independent musicians with the tools, community, opportunities, and education they need to earn a living doing what they love.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this rapidly evolving music tech industry, BeatStars has a history of disrupting the status quo, being first in the market, and innovating for music makers. We seek an experienced Product Manager who has a bias for action and an ability to take extreme ownership to support this mission. The ideal candidate can execute and strategize while fostering an environment of collaboration and creativity. This role is ideal for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset and real-world experience distilling business value and goals into roadmaps and refined product backlogs. Most importantly, you will be integral to helping us build a better platform that music creators love to use.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to craft vision, requirements, and concept development of our marketplace product, including management of our creator assets.
  • Take extreme ownership of all functional aspects of product responsibility including research and analysis of market data to identify consumer trends and behavior,  writing requirements, overseeing design, and planning development.
  • Effectively collaborate with Design, Engineering, Support, and other cross-functional teams to execute and ship features that impact KPIs.
  • Conduct user research and competitor analysis to optimize product vision and meet market demands. A/B testing.
  • Have a bias for action to coordinate with go-to-market activities across product development, Sales, Marketing, and Support to ensure successful on-time product releases. Analyze and communicate conversions post-launch.
  • Comfortable with collaborating and communicating directly with senior leadership
  • Work closely with product leadership to define a strategic roadmap for the products you own.
  • Work closely with product management/business teams to create and maintain a product backlog according to business value or ROI.
  • Work with internal and external contacts to analyze needs and align product features to strategic goals.
  • Document product feature functionality and participate in the QA process to ensure our platform is functioning as designed.
  • Keep up with agile/scrum best practices and trends.
  • Analyze the market and product features using common BI tools such as Google Analytics, MetaBase, Looker, or similar tools.

What You’ll Need

  • 3+ years of proven experience in product management, product development, or a related field, preferably in SaaS and Marketplace businesses (eCommerce/consumer-based)
  • You have experience working with web, mobile applications, and SMS.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and awareness. Ability to actively listen.
  • You are naturally curious. You love digging into the details to figure out how something works or why something is the way it is.
  • You set a high standard for work and quality of deliverables.
  • Ability to challenge ideas constructively to find the best solutions for creators.
  • Comfortable with digesting and understanding complex product ecosystems.
  • Ability to research and analyze incomplete, conflicting, or ambiguous inputs and turn them into solid action plans.
  • Expert at quickly synthesizing and translating lots of information and or data into cohesive and concise thoughts and plans.
  • Business-focused with a passion for growing revenue and business models.
  • Passionate about full lifecycle product management, data and analytics, and extreme ownership of post-launch performance.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions to drive product improvements.
  • Collaborative team player with experience working cross-functionally (i.e. with Design, Engineering, Growth, and Operations).
  • Experience working in Jira or similar product/project management tools;
  • Superior written and verbal communication with concise and persuasive presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, operate effectively in a matrix organization and a fast-paced environment, and proactively manage expectations.

Highly preferred:

  • music/publishing industry experience
  • SQL or other programming experience
  • Experience with music creation tools such as DAWS, sampling, and mixing
  • Experience with Amplitude

This role might be for you if:

  • You are a team player. You understand that flying solo is a limiting and isolating choice and know that making your team look good works far better than creating a one-man show.
  • You have a high level of emotional intelligence. You can actively listen and repeat back for clarity.
  • You are an expert communication router - being at the center of the information triangle among the market, team, and company, you know how to find the best method and style to communicate thoughts, ideas, and feedback.
  • You respond quickly and appropriately to the needs of others.
  • You have a knack for explaining complicated things simply and clearly breaking down communication for the intended audience.
  • You’re level-headed and cool under pressure. When things change, you know how to roll with the punches.
  • You can tolerate ambiguity.
  • You enjoy managing the big picture, as well as the small details.
  • You are an out-of-the-box thinker when it comes to finding solutions to problems.
  • You will blow us away with your work ethic, your passion, your integrity, your attitude, and your energy!
