Job Description

Nidec Aerospace is seeking a qualified Product Engineer to support the successful launch of new products in the manufacturing plant, playing a key role during prototype builds. This position will also contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation from a product perspective by ensuring that motors are manufactured to specification, defects are identified and resolved promptly, and product performance is continuously optimized. Serving as the link between the R&D department and the manufacturing teams, the Product Engineer will bridge communication and drive product-related improvements.

The product engineer will also participate in the Design for Manufacturing process at the early stages of product launch, providing feedback on lessons learned and manufacturing input for the new product developments.

The individual is responsible for:

New Product Launch Support:

  • Lead the production of samples during new product introduction (NPI) and ensure alignment with design and performance specifications.

  • Participate in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) efforts to ensure designs are optimized for efficient and cost-effective production.

  • Actively contribute to prototype builds, providing insights to enhance manufacturability and assembly.

  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop and refine component manufacturing processes, ensuring high-quality standards and alignment with plant requirements.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between R&D and manufacturing teams, ensuring seamless transitions from design to production.

Operational Support & Troubleshooting:

  • Assist in maintaining smooth daily plant operations by ensuring products meet design specifications and quality standards.

  • Analyze and troubleshoot product defects, conducting root cause analyses to implement corrective and preventive actions.

  • Run experiments and develop sampling strategies to address product performance or assembly issues effectively.

Hands-On Production Support:

  • Work directly on the production floor, collaborating with operators and technicians to troubleshoot and resolve product-related issues.

  • Monitor product performance and manufacturing processes, recommending adjustments to ensure consistency and compliance.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to production teams during assembly and testing processes.

Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement:

  • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to optimize production processes, improving quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Lead product-focused initiatives for continuous improvement, including implementing best practices and reducing defects.

  • Support quality assurance efforts to ensure compliance with aerospace industry standards and customer requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Act as the link between the plant and the R&D team, facilitating the flow of technical information and ensuring alignment.

  • Communicate product performance, challenges, and improvement opportunities to R&D and other stakeholders.

  • Represent the plant’s product-related capabilities in technical discussions with R&D and customers.

Technical Attributes and Experience

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, particularly in aerospace or complex motor production.

  • Experience with root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA).

  • Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and lean manufacturing principles.

  • Knowledge of CAD software is beneficial but not a primary focus.

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to solve problems on the production floor.

  • Hands-on approach, comfortable working directly with products and production equipment.

  • Strong focus on quality and process improvement.

  • Prior experience in electrical motor manufacturing and product launch environments.

  • Familiarity with root cause analysis tools such as 8D or Six Sigma.

  • Comfortable leading initiatives for continuous improvement in a production setting.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and improve complex processes.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to high-quality standards.

  • Proactive and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Innovative thinker with a passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Minimum Requirements (proficiency levels aligned to job level)
