Summary of the role

The Product Development Manager will lead a team of engineers and technicians to bring projects from Phase 1 to commercialization. The Product Development Manager will act as a technical leader for Product Development related improvements, as well as informing development assignments or training related to the PDP procedure.
Role and Responsibilities
- Partners with Program Managers to execute the project plan to schedule, within budget constraints, meeting or exceeding customer requirements.
- Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, NPI Engineering, or SMEs to develop innovative manufacturing processes following lean manufacturing and DFM principles that satisfy customer and regulatory requirements, as well as vitality metrics (yield, cost, on-time delivery).
- Mentor and develop junior staff members on PDP overview, procedure, and best practices.
- Mentor and develop junior staff members to lead their own projects or sub-portions of larger projects.
- Co-ordinate and participate in brainstorming and troubleshooting activities.
- Co-ordinate and participate in design or phase reviews to support the advancement of projects from Phase 1 to commercialisation following the Nordson PDP procedure.
- Participate in design for manufacture/design for assembly activities.
- Maintains detailed documentation throughout all project phases.
- Participate in design and process verification and validation activities working with manufacturing and quality personnel.
- Work with other Nordson sites to support design and development activities.
- Participate in customer meetings and visits.
- Familiar with medical device regulations FDA, QSR and ISO 13485.
Skills and Qualifications
- Degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, polymer engineering or other equivalent discipline.
- 10+ years work experience in medical device or similar industry is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to develop medical devices from concept to commercialisation.
- Experience in design and manufacture of balloon catheters and delivery systems.
- Experience in phase-gated, PDP (Product Development Process) procedure.
- Familiar with DFM/DFA principles.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Strong problem solving and analysis skills.
- Stronger leadership skills
