This manager position is primarily responsible for providing product counsel services to the Financial Lines Business Units and Product Managers. Responsibilities include (i) maintaining a strategic partnership with senior level business leaders to ensure effective implementation of strategic objectives relating to Financial Lines products; (ii) identifying priorities to support business initiatives and transactions; (iii) managing highly complex Financial Lines product-related matters; and (iv) providing expert legal advice and guidance.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Leads, directs and manages Financial Lines product counsel team with an emphasis on talent management.
- Provides leadership to product counsel supporting Financial Lines business units and ensures that the team members provide proactive, protective and efficient product counsel services to the businesses.
- Provides strategic and tactical product related counsel to Financial Lines product managers and underwriters.
- Drafts and advises on complex insurance product wordings, form rewrites and other related documents, such as non-disclosure agreements, no known loss letters, and non-renewal, conditional renewal and cancellation letters.
- Reviews external communication materials, marketing collateral, presentations, and training materials.
- Partners with Financial Lines business leaders to manage and mitigate legal, compliance, and regulatory risks.
- Supports regulatory, litigation, claims and coverage counsel on matters, including filing objections, market conduct exams, consumer complaints, coverage litigation and bad faith lawsuits.
- Conducts legal research on various Financial Lines insurance product and service related matters.
- Facilitates business partner learning by developing and delivering training, and works on special projects.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Significant experience working within the insurance industry and drafting Financial Lines insurance products.
- Demonstrated ability to draft complex insurance product wordings.
- In-depth understanding of CNA products and services, as well as competitor products and services.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with and support the growth and development of the Financial Lines business.
- Experience working as a trusted advisor with internal business clients and sophisticated leadership team.
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and internal business partners, and a demonstrated ability to succinctly present complex topics through an approachable and relatable presence.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills and ability to manage ambiguous situations.
- A high proficiency in time management, leadership, influence, and project management skills.
- A proven track record of results achievement, collaboration, teamwork and negotiation skills.
Education and Experience
- JD and a license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction required.
- A minimum of ten years of related legal work experience in key specialties.
I n certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia , California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois , Maryland , Massachusetts , New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $97,000 to $189,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
