Job Description

Salary range: starting from 130k - 170k AUD + RSUs + Super

We’re looking for a Product Compliance & Risk (Senior) Manager to join our growing Product Compliance & Risk team in APAC, supporting first line control implementation and monitoring activities. This newly created role provides a unique, hands-on opportunity to have an impact on Wise’s mission and help save millions more people money.

Your mission:

Wise has pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Our customers can also manage their money with international multi-currency accounts.

Your mission is to work with control owners across APAC to implement new and uplift existing controls to effectively manage the risks Wise is exposed to, with a specific focus on regulatory risk.

This is a first line Product Compliance & Risk role, embedded in the APAC Product Squad.

You, together with the team in APAC, will be responsible for:

Implementing and uplifting controls to effectively address the risks Wise is exposed to in APAC:

  • By understanding both the Wise product deeply enough and local regulatory expectations, support Product and other first-line teams to identify controls they have in place, the risk(s) the controls are mitigating, and how to document the controls within the Wise Group Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (GRC) tool;

  • Working with Product and other first-line teams to identify and/or remediate any gaps in control design, with a focus on gaps in meeting various regulatory obligations across the APAC region. This includes ensuring that any new controls are implemented consistently prior to launch;

  • Working with control owners to uplift existing controls, to ensure documentation accurately reflects control design, and controls effectively address the risk(s) they intend to mitigate; and

  • Supporting Product and other first-line teams to interpret regulatory requirements across APAC, and improve their controls accordingly to avoid regulatory breaches and/or incidents.

Defining and mapping scalable control frameworks across APAC:

  • Identifying where APAC regulatory requirements can be met by leveraging existing global controls and when unique requirements need prioritisation, optimising for utilisation of existing controls where possible.

Designing and implementing first-line control monitoring and testing:

  • Supporting control framework owners to build risk-based controls testing programs, as required to meet APAC regulatory requirements;

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Grow your hands-on FinTech knowledge at full speed;

  • Build best-in-class controls: the role provides a unique opportunity to build robust controls supporting the compliance of our state-of-the-art products; and

  • Work together with our amazing teams both regionally and globally.

Qualifications

About you:

Must have:

  • A team player with a collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively with different stakeholders such as Product, Risk and Compliance;

  • Problem solving attitude, with the ability to use regulation together with data to drive business decisions;

  • Passion for building best-in-class controls across Wise;

  • Previous experience in FinTech or a compliance, legal, risk or control function within financial services;

  • Ability to analyse and interpret regulatory obligations and apply them effectively in the context of control design and effectiveness;

  • A natural owner, that drives and delivers project from inception to completion, timely and with attention to detail; and

  • Legally authorised to work in Australia or Singapore.

Nice to have but not essential:

  • High-level knowledge of financial services regulations across multiple APAC markets and a general understanding of the expectations of APAC regulators/policymakers;

  • Ability to prioritise effectively and call-out key areas for improvement and implementation required from a regulatory point of view;

  • Ability to effectively and clearly communicate and provide practical, actionable, and value added recommendations;

  • Comfortable working autonomously with a degree of ambiguity; and

  • Willingness to travel, as Wise offices are located across different countries.

  • Supporting Product and other first-line teams with inputs into internal and external control assessments; and

  • Working with second line Compliance and Risk teams to design and execute control attestation processes across APAC.
