KFMB-TV CBS 8, the TEGNA station in San Diego, CA, is seeking an experienced Producer to join our innovative team. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, loves news and enjoys working on the cutting edge of television, digital and social media. CBS 8 cross-trains producers on television and digital platforms. Our producers have a strong journalistic base, excel with conversational writing, and can multitask under tight deadlines.
This is a full-time, hourly position that reports to an executive producer.
Responsibilities:
- Line produce newscasts, create segments and shows that are engaging and innovative
- Write in an exciting, accurate, creative, and conversational way
- Ability to edit content, and showcase stories for broadcast and digital platforms
- Research facts and sources’ credibility
- Pitch story ideas
- Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media to enhance stories
- Use social listening and independent sources to gather story ideas
- Lead and inspire news teams to work together to create memorable shows
- Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer
- This position may include nightside and/or weekend work
Requirements:
- BA/BS in Journalism, Communications, or related field
- 5+ years of experience preferred
- Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts, and digital content
- Experience in editing and content management systems a plus
- Passion for journalism and fact-based reporting
- Ability to prioritize and manage requests from various sources with an ability to work well with a team and meet deadlines
- Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
- Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook
- Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Axis graphics a plus
- Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
- Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
Pay Range
$31.25—$33.50 USD

Our 401(k) program offers full, part-time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% - 80% of their pay on a pre-tax basis to TEGNA’s 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.
Regardless of participation in TEGNA medical plans, ALL employees and their eligible family members receive nine free virtual doctor’s appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.
TEGNA offers a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit as well as nine paid holidays per year.
