Hexcel is currently seeking a Process/Continuous Improvement Engineer for our Decatur, AL, USA location.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • As a member of the engineering team, you will work collaboratively across various departments, driving lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives to streamline production processes, increase efficiency, and improve effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership and expertise to improve plant processes through careful characterization.  Key factors include safety, quality, yields, cost reduction, process capability, introduction of new technology, and reduction of time cycles.
  • Assume full responsibility for managing process conditions to meet Process Control Document requirements and PAN fiber specifications.
  • Author and execute process trials related to process or product improvements, working very closely with Operations personnel.
  • Perform root cause analysis to investigate product, process, or equipment issues.  Implement repairs, upgrades, and improvements as necessary.
  • Solve problems efficiently in a team-based work environment.
  • Manage qualification efforts required for new equipment, processes, and materials. Provide training as necessary to operations personnel.
  • Actively pursue and direct process improvements to improve performance, cost, etc. provide process support for continuous improvement initiatives and complete six-sigma projects targeting known trouble areas to improve final properties and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in chemical, or mechanical engineering or similar engineering/technical discipline.
  • 10+ years experience in manufacturing, continuous process industry preferred. Opportunity available for varying levels of experience. Compensation will be determined based on education and relevant experience.
  • Familiar with a variety of field concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to use structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Performs a variety of complicated tasks and has a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and organizational abilities.
  • Experience with SPC and other statistical techniques.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma continuous improvement programs preferred.
