Job Description:
Summary:
The person in this position will provide leadership and work with multidisciplinary project teams, providing process engineering and technical expertise related to hydrocarbons and other flammable fluids. Project assignments may include petroleum refining, chemical or industrial process design, process safety, and engineering techniques. Tasks may include material and energy balances, instrumentation and control diagrams, modeling, developing process flow diagrams, writing reports and equipment specifications, estimating costs, and sizing process equipment. The work will also include management of projects and coordination with clients as well as opportunities for practice development, mentoring, and business development.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in chemical, petrochemical, or mechanical engineering

At least 10 years of related experience

Experience working at industrial sites either as an operating engineer, project engineer, or as a consultant

Working knowledge of codes and guidelines related to process safety
-
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
-
Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative
-
A flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs

Familiarity with basic Microsoft Office software packages, especially Excel

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr now, or in the future

Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:

15 + years of related experience

Experience with gated project delivery method

Experience with design programs such as AspenTech or similar

Experience with alternative fuels such as hydrogen, biofuels, or ammonia

Willingness to assist with business development

Professional Engineer or ability to obtain within one year or registrations or certifications related to process safety
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is/can be based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah; Reno, Nevada; Bismarck, North Dakota; Duluth, Minnesota; or Ann Arbor, Michigan, offices.
Compensation:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000/year. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based upon relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Barr has a “no retained earnings” model and distributes all its profit to our employees through our bonus plan and ESOP.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of industrial sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided for work in these areas.
