Position summary:

The Process Engineer I will identify improvement opportunities that align with strategic objectives and lead multi-disciplined teams improving existing processes, reducing costs and will assist in the implementation of new manufacturing processes. This will be accomplished through the use of process improvement methodologies: DMAIC, DOE, FMEA, Process Mapping, 6S, etc. This includes, but is not limited to, examining equipment, processes and operations, then making improvements through the definition, development, documentation, training and implementation of the process. Candidates should enjoy both hands-on and theoretical engineering approaches.

Educational requirements:

  • BS in Engineering and up to three years Process, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering experience
  • In lieu of an Engineering degree, will accept five years of Process Improvement Experience
  • Green Belt Certification preferred

Skills and experience:

  • Professional attitude and work ethic, and a self-starter with a desire to achieve results
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, from floor level through the management level
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to influence others
  • Knowledgeable of process engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering and material properties
  • Capable of process documentation such as manufacturing routings, task descriptions, and work center definitions
  • Experience with process improvement tools and techniques (DMAIC, DOE, FMEA, SPC, Process Mapping, etc.), desirable
  • Ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data
  • Experience with statistical software such as Minitab or SPC for Excel, flowcharting and process mapping software
  • Strong time and project management skills
  • Experience working with customers to understand performance and end-use requirements, determining critical process characteristics, variables and measurement systems that determine and measure conformance to requirements
  • Familiar with design of machinery fundamentals

Essential duties:

  • Learn and retain working knowledge of company initiatives, processes, laboratory testing and quality control procedures as necessary to meet company needs
  • Work with operators on the floor to learn the capabilities and limitations of our processes
  • Evaluate all processes to identify opportunities for improvements in efficiency, productivity, and quality, which align with strategic objectives
  • Partner with manufacturing to develop, maintain, implement, and monitor operational procedures and standards, this includes performing process audits
  • Work to reduce off-quality by analyzing quality data to determine root cause
  • Perform cost analysis, time studies, frequency checks, and material usage analysis
  • Collaborate with Engineering to plan and execute all aspects of a project or technology initiative, including basic data collection, engineering evaluation, scope of work development, cost estimations and financial analysis
  • Develop project charters and lead process improvement and cost reduction teams utilizing process improvement tools and techniques
  • Analyze, develop, coordinate, implement and interpret the results of projects and trials related to continuous improvement and product development
  • Provide regular updates on project status
  • Maintain accurate, legible and well-organized records of all projects, trials and necessary support data in manufacturing and related support areas
  • Coordinate functional experts in contacting outside vendors concerning raw materials, supplies, machinery or equipment as necessary to meet company needs
  • Travel to locations outside the company to conduct and/or assist in continuous improvement activities, trials or training as necessary to meet company needs
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, ISO 9001 & 14001 policies
  • Comply with safety regulations
  • Maintain and promote good housekeeping
  • Comply with environmental regulations
  • Be aware of departmental Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical demands:

  • Long periods of standing on concrete during data collection
  • Daily climbing of ladders or stairs
  • Extensive walking

Work environment:

  • Office environment
  • Non-climate controlled manufacturing environment.
