Process Development Intern
Start date: August 2025
Duration: 6 months
Allowance: 625 euro per month (40hrs, 5 days) & full reimbursement of travel expenses

Basic Requirements for all:
- You should have strong communication skills and fluency in English, both written and verbal (Dutch is not a requirement but other languages are a plus)
- You are enrolled at a university for at least 50% study load for the duration of the internship.
- NOTE: EU working rights are required (Either you have EU Citizenship, you are studying in the Netherlands or have relevant student work visa)

Process Modelling
During your assignment, you will be part of the D&EM (Developed and Emerging Markets) R&D team. You'll be working in a high performing team, alongside peers always trying to reach the next level. As an integrated team member, we welcome you to take part in the team's activities such as team meeting & category meeting which will give you a real feel for the company and the business. Get ready for a lot of exposure to internal senior stakeholders. The delivery of the Process Modeling Program will be your primary responsibility.
Project Brief:
You will be responsible for the development, validation and simulation of mathematical/ data models for key unit operations, that will enable continuous improvement of our production processes and development of novel process design. Furthermore, you'll support the development of new digital capabilities.
Assignment and key activities:
- Learning about Processing technologies and potential applications for the Kraft Heinz portfolio.
- Data generation by performing pilot plant trials with different unit operations and the key unit operation under investigation
- Developing, validating and simulation of mathematical / data models for key unit operations under investigation
- Carrying out a techno-economic evaluation on the outcome generated by model.
- Set conclusions & recommendations.
- Sharing knowledge within the HIC and other departments (presentation and final report).
Specific Team Requirements:
- Bachelor/Master level in Chemical Engineering, Food Processing Technology or Chemical Related Engineering
- Knowledge on: Food processing, unit operations, process modelling, programming (e.g. MATLAB, Python, COMSOL)
- Classes or projects about: heat exchangers, unit operations mixing, homogenization is preferred
- Experience in laboratory/equipment is a plus
- You are a confident and curious person with good communication and networking skills, with ability to simplify. Able to work autonomously and in teams.
New Generation Sauces
The Kraft Heinz Company (KHC) is continuously looking at driving innovations, identifying technical key enablers to support business strategy and providing sustainable solutions ready to be implemented in the factories.
The person will be part of the R&D process team located in Nijmegen. This team is responsible for all the Kraft Heinz international zone, giving support to different factories and teams around the world. The project this person will perform will greatly impact future developments considering the sauces portfolio.
Assignment and key activities:
- Learning about Processing technologies and potential applications for the Kraft Heinz portfolio.
- Coordinate Pilot Plant trials and compare trial results using Scale-Up prediction model
- Define an analytical plan, set conclusions and make recommendations
- Understand the current way to produce sauces at Pilot Plant and Factory scale
- Understand analytical and sensory methods to measure trials performance
- Determine products to be included in the trials
- Prepare periodic presentations to keep the internship supervisor and the Process team informed about the progress
Specific Team Requirements:
- Bachelor/Master level in Chemical Engineering, Food Processing Technology or Food Engineering
- Skills and knowledge on: General process on food industry, scale up knowledge, ingredients interaction, emulsification process, rheology and tomato processing
- Experience or knowledge on how to work in Labs and conduct Pilot Plant trials is a plus
- Classes or projects about: Process development/design and ingredient functionality
- You are a proactive person that shows curiosity, positivity and enthusiasm during projects. You can work in teams and show flexibility and leadership. You have a data driven mindset.
