This is a Development Associate II/III position in the Upstream Process Development group.  This is an exciting opportunity to join our cell culture team developing mammalian cell culture processes used for the manufacture of therapeutic recombinant proteins.  The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting shake flask and bioreactor experiments, sampling, inoculating, feeding & harvesting bioreactors. Under general supervision, this person carries out routine to moderately complex experiments or procedures and data analysis.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain lab including cleaning, autoclaving reactors, stocking laboratory supplies and performing maintenance on laboratory equipment as needed
  • Support bench scale bioreactor and shake flask experiments with aseptic technique:
    • Sample shake flasks and bioreactors
    • Use cell counting and chemical analytic equipment
    • Record data accurately in batch record and notebooks
  • Perform cell culture operations such as cell passaging, bioreactor inoculation, transfection, cloning, cell-imaging, and cryopreservation/cell-banking
  • Understand relevant lab methodologies with awareness of their applications, problems, and limitations
  • Work other members of the team to design, execute, and analyze experiments
  • Identify and solve basic technical problems with supervisor/leads
  • Present data at internal meetings with input from supervisor
  • Draft protocols and contribute to reports with supervision
  • Contribute to continuous lab improvement

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated experience in a mammalian cell culture and bioreactor lab environment preferred, but training can be provided to the right candidate.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and confidence working with computers and analytical equipment
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills and technical ability
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
  • Flexibility to work both independently and in a team setting
  • Willingness to support evening or weekend work, if needed
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and good manual dexterity to work in a laboratory environment
  • Must be dependable, detail-oriented, organized, and willing to perform both routine tasks and develop new skills
  • Academic or industrial hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, media/ buffer preparation and aseptic technique preferred

QUALIFICATIONS  

Required: 

Level II-BS/BA degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.  Equivalent education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.  

Required: 

Level III-BS/BA degree and 5+ years of relevant experience. Equivalent education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.   

COMPENSATION:

$66,960 – $92,070
