Job Description

HI-Bio, Inc., a Biogen company, is seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist in Experimental Immunology to drive the discovery and validation of novel therapeutic targets in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to drive forward multiple discovery programs that encompass target identification and validation, followed by development and application of in vitro and in vivo assays to evaluate therapeutic hypotheses.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive novel target discovery and validation for immune-mediated diseases both as an individual contributor and in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Set up and perform cell-based and in vivo assays to establish proof-of-concept for prospective targets, and advance therapeutic candidates for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
  • Establish outsourcing strategy for specialized experiments to complement in-house work, and manage relationships with CROs for efficient execution.
  • Manage associate scientist or scientist-level individuals as needed.

You are passionate about target discovery and validation, and have the ability and experience to execute on critical experiments that enable rapid prioritization of prospective targets. You are motivated to evaluate therapeutic hypotheses in the scientific discipline of experimental immunology.

This position is based in South San Francisco, California and required frequent onsite presence. Candidates must be within commutable distance or able to self-relocate to be considered.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in biology, immunology, or related scientific field with 5-8 years of industry experience. Candidates without a Ph.D. with extensive, highly related experience will also be considered.
  • Hands-on experience with novel target discovery using “omics” datasets and target validation is required.
  • Experience coordinating discovery efforts across multidisciplinary teams and management of CROs is required.
  • Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement in discovery biology as demonstrated by publications, patents, or pipeline contributions.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with setting up novel workflows for generating and analysis of “omics” datasets and cell-based assay development for target validation is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with mast cell biology, immune mediated diseases or bispecific antibody characterization is desirable.
  • Experience with team leadership and mentorship is considered a plus

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is $139,000 - $202,000. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job related years of relevant experience, internal equity, and location of the job. Additionally, this role is eligible for participation in Biogen’s LTI grants and other incentive programs.
