Job Description: Principal Network Automation Engineer / Calix, Inc.
Calix is seeking a Principal Network Automation Engineer to join our Network Operations group that supports an international technology footprint that spans the globe. The position can be a fully remote, or a hybrid remote / onsite if the candidate lives within driving range of a Calix office in the United States.
The Principal Network Automation Engineer will be responsible to help design, implement, troubleshoot, analyze, and maintain network solutions aligned with business strategic goals. This role will be required to travel to one or more Calix offices at least once or twice a year.
Responsibilities:
- Influence and manage interactions with technology vendors and align Calix business strategy
- Provide input to business partner decision making and drive strategic architecture initiatives
- Configures, tests, and maintains LAN/WAN equipment and related services
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve network problems
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented networks
- Maintain and support company’s LAN/WAN environment
- Develop test and project plans and timelines for various projects
- Implement and optimize network monitoring and alerting to improve network uptime
- Write functional requirements/specifications documents
- Identify and champion opportunities for network optimizations like cost reduction, reliability improvements, latency reduction, and improved resiliency
- Ensures compliance with change management, internal and external audit requirements to maintain compliance with control frameworks like ISO27001, SOC2, GDPR
- Design and implement automation frameworks for rapid rollout of network configuration changes, taking inventory of current deployments, and gathering KPIs for internal reports
- Establishing and maintaining AWS, Azure and GCP VPN tunnels
- Develop automation for maintenance and setup of Azure networking
- Establishing and maintaining AWS Organizations, Account policies, and Control Tower with integration into single sign-on
Required Qualifications:
- Effectively engages project stakeholders in project planning, and recognizes project impact on business strategy
- Hands-on experience implementing and managing network services for an enterprise or service provider network
- At least 10 year’s experience in switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access networks, and at least one Cloud provider like AWS, Azure or GCP. Familiarity with Ansible, Terraform, Chef, Puppet or other automation frameworks.
- Extensive knowledge of fundamental network protocols and concepts including: DNS, DHCP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, VLANs, IPv4, IPv6, MPLS
- Experience implementing and troubleshooting routing protocols such as OSFP, EIGRP and BGP
- Experience implementing and developing custom sensors for network monitoring tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, CheckMK, Nagios, Zabbix, LiveAction or other systems
- Experience implementing IPAM on NetBox or other equivalent software
- Experience with Wireshark, tcpdump and other packet capture and debugging tools
- Experience implementing and troubleshooting site to site VPN tunnels between Cisco, Palo Alto, or Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure) endpoints
- Cisco Certifications CCNA, CCNP, CCIE not required but a plus
- Experience with Max, Windows, Linux operating systems
- Experience with Software Defined Networking and Principles
- May be required to travel up to 10% based on business needs

Compensation will vary based on geographical location (see below) within the United States. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's location of residence and multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, and education.

138,000.00 - 234,600.00 USD Annual
National Major Cities plus, CA, CO, NY Metro area:
120,000.00 - 204,000.00 USD Annual
