The Principal Machine Learning Engineer (PMLE) will serve as a key technical leader within US Foods’ Machine Learning Operations team and will help drive our advancements in AI and Generative AI. They will provide thought leadership across our Analytics & Data Science organization and work closely with ML Engineers, Data Scientists, and business leaders to design, develop, and deploy industry-leading AI solutions.
Recognized as an ML expert, the Principal ML Engineer will collaborate with the Principal Data Scientist to establish and enforce best practices to ensure consistency and scalability of our models and applications our sellers, merchandisers and customers depend on.
The Principal Machine Learning Engineer will play a critical role in bridging the gap between the development and deployment of ML models, ensuring an efficient transition from lab to production. The Principal ML Engineer will also guide our ML Ops team in building and automating ML CI/CD pipelines, containerizing models, orchestrating workflows, and monitoring production workloads.
This position is virtual/remote which means the work can be completed from anywhere in the United States except Hawaii or United States Territories.
This position is eligible for a 30% above base bonus potential as well as Long Term Incentive annually.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee development and deployment of ML pipelines and infrastructure, including applications of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI

Stay current on state-of-the-art methods and technologies; identify opportunities for innovation that pushes limits and helps drive step-change in our growth, productivity, and customer experience

Mentor and develop our ML Ops and Engineering talent while leveling-up our ML production capabilities

Lead cross-functional teams in breakthrough AI/ML innovations

Collaborate with ML Ops and Data Science teams, Digital and Technology teams, and business stakeholders

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
Must possess a minimum of 5+ years of experience with ML frameworks (e.g. scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch), cloud computing, data processing, API development, ML Ops, CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, and coding languages

Must possess a minimum of 5+ years of experience with Agile/Scrum, version control (Git), SQL/NoSQL, orchestration tools (Airflow/Dagster), and serverless technologies

Hands-on experience with LLMs and Generative AI including a proven track record delivering projects from conception to production

Deep understanding of ML and Deep Learning algorithms, ML system design and architecture, model development lifecycle, and distributed computing

Experience with experimentation, A/B tests, and causal inference

Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to present effectively to cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadership

The following information is provided in accordance with certain state and local laws. Compensation depends on experience, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law. In California, the expected compensation for this role is between $132,200.00 and $263,000.00. In Connecticut, the expected compensation for this role is between $149,900.00 and $263,000.00. In Colorado, the expected compensation for this role is between $141,800.00 and $236,300.00. In Maryland, the expected compensation for this role is between $141,800.00 and $236,300.00. In Minnesota, the expected compensation for this role is between $132,600.00 and $221,000.00. In New York, the expected compensation for this role is between $132,600.00 and $263,000.00. In Rhode Island, the expected compensation for this role is between $141,800.00 and $236,300.00. In Washington, the expected compensation for this role is between $149,900.00 and $249,900.00.
