The Opportunity
We are looking for a Principal Engineer who wants to join a dynamic and experienced team and take their technical knowledge to the next level, helping us achieve our mission of creating a best-in-class recognition product that makes giving recognition simple, easy, and engaging.

You will work with the Recognition and Celebrations team, who design and deliver exciting features that enable our customers to spread a culture of recognition within their organization and truly become a "Workhuman Enterprise." In short, we have built a platform that allows people to thank each other publicly for great work.

This role sits within one of the larger development teams, who have made significant progress in creating a wonderful Gratitude and Recognition experience for our customers worldwide. We partner closely with people from Product, Product Design, and Architecture.

  • Collaboration with Product and the Engineering Managers to ensure that work is planned, designs are thought through, and capacity is available to complete the work planned for each sprint.

Tech Stack

  • Java, Spring, Git, Relational databases, SQL, ECS/Fargate, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, OpenAPI.

  • Also, Apache Camel, Python, Splunk, New Relic, Kafka.

The skills you will bring 

  • Ideally, you have 10+ years working in enterprise applications development with the following: Java, Spring, microservices, SQL 

  • You have hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g. RDS, ECS, Lambda functions, API Gateway, S3)

  • You have experience in agile software development and scalable client-facing applications, with a track record of delivery secure, performant RESTful APIs.

  • You have familiarity with application design and development using JavaScript and frameworks such as React (preferred) or similar to facilitate in depth design discussions with Frontend Developers.  

  • You have experience and are comfortable explaining complex technical issues to an audience of varying technical abilities (including those with no technical experience)  

  • You understand and can identify technical risks with the product approach and the technical strategy, communicate them to stakeholders, and implement strategies to avoid them.  

  • You have experience diagnosing complex production support issues and help communicate clearly about the issue, the impact and proposed resolution and guide the team to deliver the appropriate.  

  • You have experience working with other technology leaders to continually improve engineering standards across the organization.

  • You have helped introduce new dev/test/automation frameworks, languages, tools and have driven adoption where suitable.  

  • You have delivered quality solutions for your team, leading technical design efforts that can be used as examples for other engineers.  

  • You have built systems that scale reliably without intervention, while considering tradeoffs between things like scalability, efficiency, security and cost  

  • You can break down the most complicated technical problems and can solve them quickly and autonomously in the businesses and customers’ best interests
