The Principal Electro-Optical Engineer will participate in all aspects of the development and test of optical communications systems. The ideal candidate has 15+ years of experience in optical comms related electrical design including schematic capture, PCB layout, and testing.
This position will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering and will work closely with various engineering teams. This role is based in our Saratoga, CA office.
What you'll be doing:
- Develop PCBA requirements in collaboration with other engineering disciplines
- Design of optical comms related circuits including laser drivers and receivers, power supplies, TIAs, instrumentation, filters, high speed DACs/ADCs, digital processors and interfaces, simulations, etc.
- Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer
- Circuit analysis including power, tolerance, and reliability related
- PCBA design verification testing and system integration testing
- Production manufacturing support as needed
What you bring to this role:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
- 15+ years of experience in opto-electrical circuit design, analysis, simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout, and testing
- Design proficiency with TOSAs, ROSAs, fiber optics, power supplies, TIAs, instrumentation, filters, high speed DACs/ADCs, digital processors and interfaces, simulations, etc.
- Proficiency with schematic capture and layout of complex PCBs
- Proficiency performing circuit analyses in signal integrity tools, SPICE, and Excel
- Proficiency with electronic lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering iron, etc.
- Demonstrated success working in a dynamic environment
Extra points for the following:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
- Experience with optical comms system design
- Experience designing for space environments including radiation impacts and mitigation
- Familiarity with Altium Designer
- FPGA design skills
- C/C++ or Python skills
This is a full time, exempt position, based out of our Saratoga office. The target base pay for this position is $170,000 - $220,000 annually. The total compensation packaged will be determined by various factors such as your relevant job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
