Overview: 

As a Senior Principal Database Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the product features that are delivered through the reporting database systems. You will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining Postgres SQL databases, focusing on the stability, reliability, and performance of those systems. The position requires an advanced skillset in Postgres SQL development, from structuring effective data models to implementing efficient and robust queries on the data. 

You will be contributing to the Percipio Learning platform, an industry leader in e-Learning experiences. You’ll be a member of an engineering team that strives for excellence and delivers real business value driven by a vibrant product roadmap of features and capabilities. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Develop and maintain the Percipio reporting Postgres SQL databases, ensuring their performance, availability, and security. As a technical contributor in a team environment, you’ll work daily with your colleagues to extend and improve the data layer of the Percipio e-learning application. 

Design and implement ETL/ELT (Extract, Transform, Load) operations to retrieve and integrate data from various sources. Handle tasks related to data motion, managing the transfer of data between storage types, formats, or systems. 

Collaborate with other teams to ensure data consistency and integrity, resolving any issues that may arise. 

Participate in the planning and strategy of the data architecture and database systems. 

Develop and maintain data models for product development and ensure the model structures support the business processes. 

Ensure the security of data, especially PII and business confidential information. 

Utilize analytical and problem solving skills to improve database performance, data latency and resource usage efficiency (storage, compute, I/O). 

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members. 

Stay informed with the latest technologies and advancements in the industry. Promote modernization and continuous improvement of the data architecture to improve the reliability and efficiency of the Percipio reporting systems. 

Qualifications: 

Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field. 

Proven experience in a similar role, with strong knowledge of database systems and data analytics. 

10+ years’ experience with SQL query construction for functions, procedures, triggers. Skills must include testing, debugging, and performance tuning. 2+ years of the experience needs to be with Postgres. 

Extensive experience designing data models to support application analytics, including table partitioning strategies. 

Strong understanding of ETL/ELT operations and experience with data motion. 

Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex database issues. 

Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical team members. 

Demonstrated ability to work in a team and mentor less experienced colleagues. 

Desirable Experience: 

Experience in the design and development of a data mesh architecture, promoting the decentralization of data ownership and management. 

Experience in the design and construction of a reporting data fabric system that provides data accessibility and a unified, consistent data layer. 

Experience with the NodeJS technology and development ecosystem. 

Experience with the bash family of shells for scripting.
