Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking, employee resource groups and micro-actions, we help most of the Fortune 100 brands build better cultures and use their power for good. We’re also one of the first B Corporations in Canada, meaning we’re as committed to purpose as we are to profits. We have people working all over the world, including Canada, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and more!

As a senior technology leader, you will help build our technology platform to enable 10 million change-makers to deliver a billion acts of goodness by 2025. Our current focus is on creating a trusted, scalable infrastructure and development processes that deliver lasting value for Benevity.

We seek a visionary Principal Architect to lead our data strategy and guide our data, advanced analytics, and GenAI initiatives. You will align our data strategy with business goals, develop robust data solutions, and ensure efficient, high-quality delivery. Collaborating with engineering, product management, and executive leadership, you will define data policies, drive innovation, and enhance client value.

If you're passionate about leveraging data for positive impact and eager to contribute to a mission-driven organization, we want to hear from you.

What you will do:

  • Develop and maintain the overall technology strategy and architectural vision in line with business goals and industry best practices
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to engineering teams, ensuring adherence to architectural principles, coding standards, and development methodologies
  • Collaborate with product management and executive leadership to define and prioritize technical initiatives, considering both short-term and long-term business objectives
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions that meet customer needs and align with architectural standards
  • Drive innovation and keep abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to continuously improve our technical capabilities and maintain a competitive edge
  • Oversee architectural reviews, code reviews, and system performance analysis to ensure adherence to quality standards and optimization of system performance
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning among technical teams, promoting cross-functional communication and the exchange of ideas
  • Evaluate and select technology vendors, tools, and frameworks that align with the architectural vision and provide strategic advantage to the organization
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and mitigate technical risks, resolve complex technical challenges, and ensure successful project delivery
  • Stay informed about industry regulations, security standards, and compliance requirements to ensure our solutions meet necessary standards

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; relevant technical certification is a plus
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in software development, with a strong focus on architecture, design, and implementation of large-scale enterprise systems
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, driving technical strategy, and guiding engineering teams
  • In-depth knowledge of software development methodologies, architectural patterns, and best practices
  • Strong expertise in system architecture, cloud computing, distributed systems, and integration technologies
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically while paying attention to details
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including technical and non-technical team members, executives, and customers
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong understanding of security principles, performance optimization, scalability, and reliability in software design
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation, foster a culture of technical excellence, and stay abreast of emerging technologies
