The Impact of a Principal AI Architect at Coupa:

We are seeking a Principal AI Architect with a deep technical background in both machine learning (including mathematical rigor) and full-stack application development. This hands-on architect role requires an advanced understanding of AI and the ability to seamlessly integrate machine learning models into production-grade applications. As part of our central AI team, you will shape the future of AI-driven products and contribute directly to our strategic AI differentiation efforts.

What You'll Do:

• AI & Machine Learning Expertise: Lead the design, development, and deployment of complex machine learning algorithms, applying both foundational mathematics and advanced AI techniques to solve challenging business problems
• Full-Stack Application Development: Architect and implement end-to-end AI solutions, ensuring robust, scalable applications that work seamlessly in production environments
• System Design & Architecture: Design and optimize system architectures for data processing, model training, and real-time inference, balancing performance with ease of maintenance
• Innovation: Drive the evaluation and adoption of cutting-edge AI advancements, including generative AI and other novel techniques, to continually elevate the company’s AI capabilities
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with data engineering, product, and engineering teams to align AI initiatives with business objectives and ensure smooth integration of AI models into the broader product ecosystem
• Technical Mentorship: Serve as a go-to expert for AI architecture, providing guidance to team members on best practices, code quality, and innovative approaches
• Scalability & Reliability: Ensure that AI applications are scalable, reliable, and capable of handling complex, large-scale data environments in production

What You Will bring to Coupa:

• Technical Skills:

-Machine Learning & Mathematics: Advanced knowledge in machine learning algorithms, mathematical foundations (probability, linear algebra, optimization), and practical application of these concepts in production

-Full-Stack Development: Proficiency in both front-end and back-end development, with expertise in technologies such as Python, JavaScript, RESTful APIs, SQL, and cloud-based architecture

-AI Frameworks: Deep experience with machine learning libraries and frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and other data processing tools

-Data Engineering: Knowledge of data pipelines, data storage solutions, and real-time data processing is highly preferred

• Architectural Vision: Ability to design robust, scalable systems and applications, balancing innovation with the practicalities of deployment and maintainability
• Industry Experience: Experience in procurement or business spend management is a plus but not essential
• Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills and a creative approach to solving complex technical problems

The estimated pay range for this role is as follows:

•Based in California: $218,875 - $257,500

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
