Motorola Solutions provides mission-critical voice and data communications solutions. In order to deliver maximum value to our customers Motorola offers a portfolio of solutions which transform ever-growing data sources into a force multiplier enabling fast, accurate emergency response and crime prevention. These solutions range from advanced integrated Command and Control systems to intelligence-led solutions, including technology such as data analytics, prediction and video streaming technologies.
This is an opportunity to design and deliver solutions to our customer’s problems using Motorola’s latest control room solutions. You will join a small team of Technical Architects who provide specialist support to the regional sales and post-sales teams for Germany and Austria.
Job Description

You will be responsible for the technical sale of compelling applications to public safety agencies using consulting-led selling techniques. The applicant will serve in an architect capacity with customers and their requirements to develop solutions that are supportable from a technical perspective. The applicant will be responsible for understanding all aspects of complex solutions and top level requirements, and will coordinate with other functional areas, subcontractors, partners, and customers in finalising requirements and addressing technical issues.

In order to propose and implement the most appropriate solutions, the applicant will review and analyse current technology infrastructure and its ability to support strategic objectives of solutions for customers. This includes working with multiple bodies within customer organisations to assist in the improvement of business processes, testing systems to ensure functionality is satisfactory and recommending new systems or product upgrades.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead all technical sales activities related to assigned sales opportunities

  • Work closely with the entire bid team to ensure overall customer objectives and strategy is maintained

  • Provide specific solutions/technology/product consulting, technical and sales input

  • Perform in-depth and high-level technical presentations for customers and partners

  • Yield maximum product and services revenue from each opportunity while driving customer satisfaction.

  • Work with Motorola Solutions product groups, Third Party Vendors and Motorola Solutions managed service organisations to define new services, deployed in on-premise and multi-tenanted off-premise configurations, including definition of technical solutions to support services offered by the Motorola Solutions services organisation to customers

  • Where required, design and implement solutions for user trials / pilots and assist with the implementation of post-sale solutions

  • Articulating solutions to customers and demonstrating deep knowledge of the customer’s problem space and solutions

  • Documenting designs and preparing proposal material including system descriptions and bill-of-materials

  • Supporting the procurement organisation to obtain and evaluate quotations from equipment vendors

  • Ability to initiate and build solid working relationships and to be self-motivated, and operate with minimal supervision.

Specific Knowledge and Skills

Whilst this is a primarily pre-sale role, it is expected that suitable candidates will have several years of experience in the detailed design and deployment of complex IT solutions in order to have credibility with potential customers.


Location/Travel

The position is home office based, with up to 50% located at Motorola Solutions or customer offices within Austria and Germany as required for specific projects. The candidate must be eligible to live and work in Austria and Germany and documented evidence of the eligibility will be required from candidates as part of the recruitment process.

The candidate will ideally already hold security Clearance Ü1 (VS-Vertraulich/Confidential) related to the definition of German SÜG § 8, and/or Leumundszeugnis.


Basic Requirements

Education

Successful candidates are likely to hold a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution, OR A two year technical degree with a minimum of 2 years military experience, OR A minimum of three years’ experience working in an external customer interfacing role specifically in the Telecommunications or IT Industry. Certifications related to system and network architecture such as MCSE, MSNE, CWNA, CCNA/CCDP, MCSE/NE, CISSP would be an advantage

The following skills are considered essential:

  • 5 years working as a supplier of solutions to public safety agencies (preferably both pre-sale and post-sale) in at least 3 of the following domains:

    • Emergency telephony and Integrated Communications Control Systems (ICCS)

    • Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)

    • CCTV, mobile video streaming, storage and management

    • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and location services

  • Good understanding of control room business processes used by public safety agencies (police, fire and health) in Germany and Austria

  • Good working knowledge of the latest IT and IP networking technologies

  • Good working knowledge of the software integration technologies, e.g. web services and ESBs

  • Specific experience of transition planning and execution to bring solutions into service

  • Fluent in spoken and written German and English, with the ability to clearly document complex technical solutions to customers

  • Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation skills

The following skills are considered highly desirable:

  • Motorola Solutions product portfolio experience and/or relevant experience in key competitor offerings in the specific domains listed above

  • Understanding and conversant about company and competitors, technologies, solutions, product strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats

  • Experience of working with ITIL practices in delivery of IT service management

  • Experience of interfacing to software development organisations, including requirements specification and Agile development 

  • Several years’ experience of IT and IP networking technologies including:

    • Rack and Blade servers

    • Storage solutions including SAN, NAS and hybrid

    • Operating systems, virtualisation and cloud

    • Enterprise-wide backup and archiving solutions

    • Ethernet switches, IP routers and firewalls

    • Security protocols over the Internet such as VPN, SSL, etc.

  • Use of requirements management tools

  • Strong communications, business/marketing, financial, and computer skills

  • Experience of business change programmes, both in pre-sale and post-sale

  • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks and associated architecture development methods including TOGAF
