Platform Engineer

We seek a Platform Engineer to join M13’s Propulsion Team. 

Based in LA and NY, M13’s Propulsion engine supports our portfolio companies by providing valuable insight and expertise across critical functions to help our founders and their teams grow their businesses. The Propulsion team allows us to give our founders a competitive advantage through knowledge and community, materially impacting the trajectory of the companies we invest in. 

The Platform Engineer will join the Propulsion Team’s Technology Group, whose mission is to build the pre-eminent AI-driven platform for investing and portfolio management.  

Reporting to the Technology Director, the Platform Engineer will identify technologies, architect and implement solutions, and maintain these systems. Additionally, they will join & participate with the technology team in research, requirement gathering, and technical planning processes for many projects across the firm.

Our ideal candidate will be an engineer with a knack for identifying internal processes and workflows that can be automated and improved with software and AI infrastructure, a successful track record of delivering complex technical projects end to end, and the ability to identify, architect, and implement a technology-driven solution. 

What you bring to the role:

• Strong Technical Competencies, including:

  • Experience building and maintaining both SQL and NoSQL Databases

  • Experience implementing business logic at both a code and database level

  • Building and maintaining custom ETL and Reverse ETL pipelines 

  • Expertise with one or more programming languages, preferably including Python based on current M13 Technology Stack, in support of data engineering, data transformation, and analytics 

  • Familiarity programming against the APIs of Foundational Models in support of internal tooling

  • Expertise in researching, evaluating, and contributing to open-source projects, especially in the Artificial Intelligence space

  • Experience configuring and programming alongside tools in M13’s Tech-Stack: Salesforce, Notion, Asana, etc.

• You have an engineer & analytical mindset and experience working with stakeholders across different SaaS platforms – you’ve built or maintained data pipelines and user workflows in our systems like Salesforce, Notion, and Slack, including programming against a variety of APIs

• You have experience authoring and maintaining complex data models and managing data governance processes, as well as in analytics engineering, normalizing data, transforming data on the fly, and delivering information via data visualization.

• You enjoy working on multiple projects simultaneously and have managed a ticket-based agile sprint planning process to provide visibility into a pipeline of interdependent technical tasks, ruthlessly prioritizing based on business needs.

• You are passionate about keeping up-to-date with technical industry trends to ensure that both M13 and our portfolio companies follow best practices.

• You have a strong interest in venture capital, technology, innovation, and startups & want to be part of the ecosystem.

What you’ll be doing: 

• Driving the evaluation and implementation of new internal tools 

• Scoping, building, and delivering internal tooling powered by Foundational Models, Data enrichment, or the implementation of AI Agents, including extracting, parsing, and reasoning with unstructured data

• Building and maintaining M13’s suite of reporting dashboards 

• Owning the configuration of internal systems to support various stakeholders and workflows

• Advising on compliance and security as it pertains to internal data
