The Role    

The Peer Review Manager is a critical leadership role responsible for optimizing the workflow and processes within a dedicated sub-team of specialists handling the peer review of scholarly journals. This position aims to enhance team productivity, drive continuous improvement in peer review processes, and support the team's involvement in broader departmental strategic projects and initiatives. As motivational leaders, Peer Review Managers will ensure that performance targets are met, manage staff effectively, and engage in editorial office projects and collaborations with external stakeholders to achieve organizational goals.  

 

What you will do  

  • Responsible for monitoring progress to targets, to ensure your team meets key objectives and defined performance plan, with a focus on efficiency and quality.  

  • Monitor and analyze key performance metrics related to peer review team goals and outcomes 

  • Resolve escalated peer review issues, driving and monitoring the timely execution of the peer review process.  

  • Inspire, mentor, and provide guidance to Specialists towards top performance. Drive team development with regular performance feedback and appraisals.  

  • Revise or draft new peer review procedures and policies, in line with our philosophy and evolving industry standards.  

  • Represent the interests of the peer review team within the company, providing an effective interface with other departments and maintaining ongoing communication to foster an environment of continuous improvement, optimization and high-quality of the review processes.  

  • Manage and influence key relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Displaying continuous improvement mindset in optimizing team processes and workflows to support the delivery of team strategies 

  • Collaborate with product teams to propose and define product development requirements in line with the company targets and customer satisfaction goals.  

  

Requirements  

  • Previous experience in an operational/process driven role within a target-led commercial organization is essential.  

  • Proven experience within a publishing role, with an understanding of the changes and challenges facing academic publishing 

  • Excellent communication skills in written and verbal English and ability to handle challenging conversations directly in a diplomatic and constructive way.  

  • Sound and mature judgement, tactful when liaising with multiple stakeholders.  

  • Strong and proven influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to build trust quickly to work effectively with stakeholders in other departments with competing priorities and resources 

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to digest large amounts of information and react effectively to urgent situations.  

  • Initiative taking, dynamic and focused personality.  

  • A working knowledge of flowcharts, process maps and spreadsheet programs would be an advantage. 

  • Self-stater attitude and take initiative when problem-solving 

  • Experience contributing to cross-functional projects experience would be an advantage
