Job Description
The professional corporation (PC) team at Topel Forman is looking for a smart, creative, self-driven, reliable, and well-rounded Payroll Tax Accountant to join their team. As the Payroll Tax Accountant, you will support the PC Operations and PC Tax team with client payroll-related matters. You will be working closely with our internal team and our external payroll processing provider to maintain and confirm payroll processing matters, such as jurisdictional changes, and tax regulations, and checking for the accuracy of such changes through the ADP platform.
With over 500 clients and growing, the PC practice group is looking for someone to hit the ground running by becoming an integral part of the team. This person should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving setting driven by tight deadlines.
This position is hybrid in our Chicago office.
Responsibilities
- Process all payroll-related information, including additions, deletions, and updates, ensuring compliance with multistate and federal regulations, and local jurisdictions
- Responsible for ensuring all client-related payroll set-ups and changes conducted through ADP are timely and accurate.
- Consistent follow-up, record-keeping and troubleshooting is required to maintain accuracy
- Ability to work with state agencies to set up, close, or adjust clients’ payroll-related accounts
- Assists the PC Tax and PC Operations team with tax notices and any ad-hoc projects
- Works within the PC Operations team to perform various tasks and special projects as required or as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor in accounting or any business-related major
- 3 to 5 years of relevant payroll processing experience working with ADP platform
- Multistate payroll tax experience
- Payroll tax regulations and jurisdictional knowledge
- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills will be necessary
- Independent and critical thinking skillsets
- Proactively plan and prepare for the cyclical projects and deadlines
- Fosters and builds positive relationships within the team, the Firm, and with clients
- Monthly & seasonal additional hours are required, particularly at year-end (December)
Preferred Requirements
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA)
- Prior public accounting firm experience

- Competitive salary with the range of $70,000 to $85,000, with annual merit increases
