The Team You Will Join
MetLife is seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor to join our US Payroll Operations team. This virtual team is responsible for semimonthly and weekly payroll processing. The team is also responsible for payroll accounting, partnering with the Tax and Legal departments to ensure compliance, and risk mitigation through standardized processes and controls. The Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-orientated and experienced Payroll Supervisor to join our team and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing. The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for a wide variety of tasks related to payroll processing activities including performing complex calculations, responding to payroll related inquiries in a professional manner, and transactional data entry as well as general supervision of approximately 4-6 payroll administrators. This role also ensures compliance with company policies, labor laws and regulations.
Success in this role requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, strong supervisory skills and the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies. The role requires a commitment to handling sensitive employee information with discretion and understanding of ethical payroll practices and data privacy laws. You'll collaborate closely with your team, company employees, the HR community and information technology support in an environment where every contribution is respected, and every perspective is heard.
How You'll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
- Oversee payroll processes ensuring timely and accurate payments to US employees.
- Ensure payroll practices comply with federal, state and local regulations including tax laws and reporting requirements.
- Actively participate in optimization of the payroll system including enhancement and maintenance testing with a strong focus on data integrity.
- Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and implement best practices.
- Supervise and mentor payroll staff with a strong emphasis on employee development and positive culture evolution.
- Address payroll-related inquiries and escalations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
- Comprehensive knowledge of payroll practices
- Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations, payroll accounting, and payroll compliance requirements
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in excel, payroll, and accounting software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
What Can Give You an Edge (Additional Skills)
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or business administration or a related field (preferred)
- 5+ years of experience with in-house payroll processing and payroll management
- Oracle HCM payroll (preferred)
- Certified Payroll Professional (preferred)
The salary range for applicants for this position is $66,900 - $91,900.
