Job summary
The Patent Engineer plays a crucial role in helping Technology Team & organization protect intellectual property assets & strength the market competition advantage through the IP analysis and patenting process. The Patent Engineer combines technical expertise & insight with legal knowledge to navigate the complexities of patent law and ensure free to operation (FTO) and patent applications in a timely manner.
Key responsibilities:
• Ensure compliance with Research & Development, Technology Team, and Company approved policies and procedures. Adhere to company EH&S codes.
• Patent Search and Analysis: Conducting comprehensive searches to identify existing patents and prior art related to new inventions or technologies.
• FTO report: Conduct the analysis of patent search results for products and check if DuPont have necessary right to manufacture and commercialize. Provide and summarize the FTO report to legal team for clearance letter.
• Patent Drafting: Drafting patent applications in collaboration with inventors, ensuring accurate and comprehensive documentation of inventions.
• Technical Expertise: Understanding complex technical concepts across various fields to accurately describe inventions in patent applications.
• Legal Research: Conducting legal research on patent laws, regulations, and case law to ensure compliance and provide strategic advice.
• Collaboration with technology team: Collaborating with inventors, attorneys, and other stakeholders to understand inventions, identify patentable aspects, and develop patent strategies aligned with business goals and objectives.
• Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of patent-related activities, including correspondence, filings, and deadlines.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field. Advanced degrees (master’s or PhD) are often preferred.
• Technical proficiency in chemistry field. Experience in semiconductor clean, etching and slurry chemistry will be a plus
• Strong understanding of patent laws, regulations, and procedures. Experience with patent searching tools and databases (e.g., PatentScope, Google Patents, etc.).
• Analytical and research skills to identify relevant prior art and assess patentability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively. Attention to detail and accuracy in drafting patent applications and other legal documents.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software tools.
• Previous experience in patent prosecution or intellectual property management is preferred but not always required.
• Organizational skills to manage patent portfolios and meet deadlines.
