The Role
As a Consumer Network Partner on a16z’s Go-to-Market (“GTM”) team, you will have the exciting opportunity to build and manage relationships with the world’s top consumer-facing businesses, including the largest travel and hospitality companies, top retailers, e-commerce leaders, and CPG brands. You will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving our firm’s strategic activities with key executives in these organizations, further developing our network across the consumer ecosystems starting with travel and hospitality..
This role demands a strategic thinker with subject matter expertise in travel and hospitality and an ability to develop strong executive-level relationships. As part of the a16z Go-to-Market team, you will leverage your expertise, executive connections, and knowledge of consumer-facing businesses and the technology that powers them, to benefit the a16z portfolio. You will have an opportunity to advise those portfolio companies on how to partner with, and sell to the corporations in our consumer network, helping them accelerate their go-to-market efforts and time to revenue.
This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and requires regular presence in the a16z Menlo Park and San Francisco offices. Some travel is required.

- Work closely with our investing teams to support our portfolio companies as they grow and scale
- Contribute to the development of the GTM team’s strategy and tactics, and collaborate cross-functionally to successfully deliver on business development projects, GTM programs and broader firm-wide initiatives
- Help scale the GTM team’s operations by continuously improving processes and systems, and mentoring team members
- Stay up to date on a16z investment theses, industry trends, and technology innovation to cultivate expertise and industry insights that bring value to the corporate network and collect market intelligence that creates value for our investment teams and portfolio companies
Build the Network
- Work effectively with large, complex global corporations with consumer businesses, and specifically with the world’s top airlines, hotel chains, online marketplaces, OTAs, cruise lines, and travel-related technology companies
- Build and execute a strategic plan to engage with key accounts across the travel and hospitality sector. This plan will be crafted to align with the investing teams and their portfolios, and carried out in coordination with the rest of the GTM team
- As part of that plan, cultivate strategic relationships with C-level and S/VP-level executives and technology buyers across all lines of business; understand their corporate priorities, technology needs, and business initiatives; and connect executives with relevant a16z portfolio companies
- Lead in-person meetings, events, and conferences to broaden and deepen network relationships, while creating commercial opportunities for the a16z portfolio. This may include executive briefings, hosting dinners, receptions, and industry-focused events that bring our corporate network, firm leaders, and portfolio companies together
Support the Portfolio
- Work effectively with a16z founders, particularly consumer applications, b2b applications and infrastructure portfolio founders, to advise on Go-To-Market strategies and growth opportunities
- Develop long-term relationships with a16z portfolio companies, understand their businesses and products, and facilitate meaningful discussions with network executives through introductions, meetings, corporate briefings, events, and conferences
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years working in a business development, strategic account management, or strategic operating role
- Track record of building strong relationships with technology founders; consumer startup experience is a plus
- Ability to develop trust with executive decision-makers, leading to retained business and growth, and a currently active network of corporate relationships in the travel and hospitality sectors
- History of successfully introducing emerging technologies as solutions to corporations
- Ability to discern industry needs and trends, effectively communicating insights to investment partners and providing relevant intelligence to founders
- Deep understanding of best-in-class consumer-facing and back-end technologies used by major consumer brands and ability to stay on top of the latest developments in AI
- Ability to prioritize and manage work and trade-offs against critical project timelines in a fast-paced, dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with a focus on detail and executive presence
- Demonstrated leadership marked by low ego, high dependability, high collaboration and consistently good judgment
- Ability to see new opportunities and proactively pursue them, balanced by the discipline to stay focused on top priorities and deliver excellent results
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field. MBA or advanced education is advantageous
- Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $317,000 - $370,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
