A day in the life.

As our Operations Specialist on the Business Insurance (BI) team, you’ll play a role in enhancing operational efficiencies and effectiveness throughout the business insurance sales and service lifecycle by maintaining relationships with insurance carriers and administrative partners, coordinating efforts on agency contracts. You will also be a liaison between teams and departments to promote strong communication and problem-solving. Your guidance will help influence and provide direction to the sales and placement team fostering a culture of change management, collaboration, and accountability. You will work closely with BI leaders to achieve best practices in the areas of refining and implementing sales processes, optimizing the sales pipeline, and providing data-driven insights to boost productivity and effectiveness. We will ask you to serve as a partner to the BI leadership teams and act as a liaison with other operating units. Finally, you will be responsible for developing strategies, efficiencies, best practices, action plans, and budgets for the department in alignment with organizational objectives.

  • Regularly review current products, processes, services, and procedures to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Streamline sales lifecycle processes by providing innovative tools and resources to enable producers to increase sales, focusing on efficiency and effectiveness across the entire sales lifecycle (Submission, Placement, Service, Issuance, Renewal). Identify inefficiencies in the insurance lifecycle, including placement, marketing, and service team partnerships.
  • Act as a liaison between teams and departments to promote strong communication and problem-solving.

Help influence and provide direction to the sales and placement team fostering a culture of change management, collaboration, and accountability.

In partnership with BI Leadership coach and mentor team members through change management opportunities, including research, development, and execution.

  • Stay informed about technical knowledge, market trends, and company information, sharing insights as necessary.
  • Maintain relationships with insurance carriers and administrative partners, coordinating efforts on agency contracts. 
  • Lead strategic carrier initiatives, including revenue budgeting and optimization for direct and    contingent commissions, and conduct efficiency/effectiveness reviews.
  • Collaborate with the BI data analytics team to understand data outputs and their implications for business strategies.
  • Partner with BI leadership to analyze data sets provided by UMW COO and promote organization-wide adherence to data standards through auditing and collaboration with managers and trainers on client teams.
  • Execution of agency-wide programs and initiatives impacting multiple departments, establishing work teams to achieve results and timely execution.
  • Partner with BI placement, service, and producers to analyze data related to E&O exposures and establish internal policies to minimize exposure. 
  • Manage various projects related to sales operations, ensuring timely execution and alignment with business objectives, while evaluating and recommending process improvements.
  • Attend meetings in support of local, regional, and national initiatives as needed.

We’d love to meet you if your professional track record includes these skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of generalist experience in business insurance, with strong knowledge of coverage and risk management issues.
  • State Property/Casualty insurance license.
  • Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) Certification or equivalent.
  • Proven success in data driven analytics and decision making.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with management and peers.
  • Strong interpersonal and sales skills in dealing with customers.

These additional qualifications are a plus, but not required to apply:

  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) Certification
