Job Description
The New York Times is looking for an Operations Manager to join our Newsroom Operations team. You will work with the staff members in our Washington Bureau, supporting journalists with a variety of daily responsibilities. You are someone who is motivated by maximizing efficiency, helping others and solving problems for the good of the team. The operations manager’s work is critical in supporting the journalism produced at The New York Times and all tasks, whether daily, weekly or one-off are valued and vital to our daily operations.
This position is based in Washington, D.C., and includes nearly full-time attendance in the office each week.
Responsibilities:

Manage and approve staff expenses in Workday, communicating and following policy limits, correcting categorizations and cost centers

Manage work and vacation schedules, maintain accurate time banks in Workday and work with Payroll to verify timebanks for transfers, departures and annual payouts.

Assist our accountability and enterprise editor, managing their calendar, helping with expense reports and sometimes attending meetings with this editor.

Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable for the department

Work with Facilities and other departments on internal desk moves/assignments

Work with HR and Recruiting teams to assist with position management transactions

Facilitate Workday management, including onboarding new employees and helping them to get the training, equipment and information they need

Purchase supplies and equipment, keep track of all departmental expenses, including capital spending and outside vendor spending

Work in Coupa for independent contractor onboarding, sourcing events and purchasing

Manage and pay freelancers and vendors

Help with special events

Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

You will report to the Washington based senior operations manager
Basic Qualifications:
-
3+ years of experience in an operational or administrative role
-
2+ years of experience with Google, PeopleSoft, Workday and Coupa.

Demonstrated experience working with all levels of management and staff
Preferred Qualifications:

Able to research resources and troubleshoot

Ability to work under deadline pressure and be accessible after hours or weekends as breaking news demands

Professional judgment concerning detail and confidentially

Optimistic attitude
The annual base pay salary for this role is between $81,000.00 and $97,000.00.
