The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all manufacturing support functions at the Aprinnova site while ensuring compliance with EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety), quality, and regulatory standards. This role collaborates across departments to maintain site consistency, safety, and operational effectiveness.
The Operations Manager leads EHS, maintenance/facilities, and quality departments, working closely with department leaders to develop and execute strategic initiatives. This position reports to the Site Leader.
Responsibilities:
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure site operations align with company policies and comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain a safe work environment by leading safety programs, committees, audits, and inspections of facility equipment, lab hoods, and security systems.
- Oversee permitted site activities (hazardous and universal waste, stormwater discharge, air emissions, etc.) to maintain compliance.
- Propose and implement EHS training in collaboration with the site safety leader.
- Enforce adherence to ISO 22716 - Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) for cosmetics.
- Suspend or correct any activity posing a threat to employees, the community, the environment, or equipment.
- Operations & Engineering
- Provide engineering resources for new and established products requiring new equipment or engineering studies.
- Collaborate with department managers to maintain operational budgets.
- Track and publish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure site performance against operational objectives.
- Work with quality leaders to ensure compliance with GMP regulations and audits.
- Support the implementation of corrective actions following GMP and customer audits.
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with plant personnel across departments to ensure seamless communication and effective implementation of changes.
- Coordinate with Amyris key personnel outside of the site as needed.
- Manage relationships with external contractors and vendors to support site operations.
- Supervise direct reports, ensuring alignment with company policies, training, and performance expectations.
- Conduct performance evaluations and address necessary disciplinary actions.
- Respond to off-hours incidents (nights, weekends, holidays) as necessary.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering (required for regulatory compliance and permit management).
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in plant operations management.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal EHS regulations.
- Ability to work flexible hours and respond to plant emergencies as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the chemical industry.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and cost savings.
- Experience in managing ISO 22716 - GMP compliance for cosmetic manufacturing.
- Strong background in managing cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and stoop for extended periods.
- Frequent use of hands for handling, reaching, and operating equipment.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 65 pounds occasionally.
- Exposure to weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Must be capable of wearing a respirator as required.
- This role is 100% on-site with no remote work option.

The pay range for this role is $94,000 to $158,500. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate’s skills, depth of experience and specific work location.
