The Operational Technology (OT) Systems Engineer primary role is to maintain the Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) data transactions between the manufacturing devices, Factory Talk Transaction Manager (FTTM) and IT enterprise systems such as MEST, Apriso, Oracle and SAP. Setting up data transactions such as downtime, process parameters and input/output/scrap counts are included in this role.
This position incorporates network planning and design, software validation, programming of PLCs for data acquisition, vision systems, network switches, microprocessors, digital displays, robot material handling systems, safety circuits and all other electrical control systems that require network connectivity for data collection.
The OT Systems Engineer will also serve as the primary point of contact working closely with the global Security Operations Center in the identification and remediation of cyber threats within the facility.
Responsibilities:
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- MES - Must be able to use Rockwell’s Factory Talk Transaction Manager (FFTM) to establish transactions between manufacturing and other MES systems such as MEST, Apriso, Oracle, SAP and automatic printing systems.
- Maintaining Rockwell’s Factory Talk Directory (FTD) and Factory Talk Asset Center (FTAC) systems. Work with the IT Security Team standards and best practices such as Asset Management, access control, physical security, network security, third party security and disaster recovery.
- Manage and coordinate 1000-1200 device asset inventory on an annual basis for manufacturing.
- Serve as a core team member representing process development and manufacturing as new products are developed or changes to current production lines.
- Coordinate and conduct qualification and validation activities for new products, processes, changes and transfers as required.
- Assign projects and their status with the appropriate personnel and departments.
- Write capital expenditure requests for equipment and infrastructure as needed.
- Install new equipment and devices to support new product development
- Develop and implement processes for pilot production and scale-up programs.
- Travel requirements up to 5% possible depending on projects.
Basic Requirements:
- Associate degree in engineering or applied technical sciences required.
- 4+ years’ automation experience using Rockwell Automation.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Basic computer keyboard & navigational skills including Microsoft Office.
- Network and setup communications on industrial manufacturing devices.
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent degree.
- Strong background in machine integration using various methods of networking.
- Proficiency in writing large complex PLC programs and versed in programming various operator interfaces.
- Industrial networking and connectivity to PLCs for data acquisition, VLANs, Firewalls.
- Design and implement data collection programming on Vision Inspection systems.
- Draw diagrams and schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Troubleshooting skills using various test instruments.
- Design, program and implement a project from start to finish.
- Multi-tasking on multiple or large projects is a must.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Additional programming skills in Apriso, Process Builder, SWL, JavaScript, HTML & XML an asset.
