Whether people and businesses are sending money to another country, spending abroad, or making and receiving international payments, Wise is on a mission to make their life easier and save them money.

As part of our team, you will be helping us create an entirely new network for the world's money. For everyone, everywhere.

More about our mission.

Job Description

We're looking for an Operational Risk Manager to support and contribute to the build, implementation and day-to-day management of our operational risk framework, provide guidance on risk incidents, support risk assessments and scenarios.

This role sits in the second line of defence and reports to Wise Europe CRO in Brussels.

Qualifications

You’ll contribute to the mission by:

Supporting the team in rolling out and embedding core elements of the risk management framework, with a focus on the broad range of operational risks in the Wise EU risk profile (e.g. operational resilience, third party risk, technology and data risk, people risks and more).

We need to ensure we're identifying the right risks and growing in control, but we want to do so whilst continuing with our agile "test and learn" approach to launching products.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting our Europe CRO in rolling out a best-in-class operational risk framework, including embedding of the risk and control self assessment process, risk incident and issues management.

  • Partnering with ‘first line’ teams EU level and Group level (servicing operations, third party and banking partner management, data and security, people, legal) to provide risk support in the assessment of systems and infrastructure risk and security risk, including the development of new products and features by embedding good risk practices and finding solutions to problems, identifying risks and recommending controls.

  • Play a key role in the management of risk incidents and issues that occur

  • Supporting the development and implementation of risk policies, procedures, key risk indicators, and risk appetite statements

  • Conducting in-depth reviews of different areas of the business, their adoption and implementation of risk management practices to oversight committees (most notably, the Europe Board and Effective Leaders Committee)

  • Promoting and helping embed a strong risk culture, making risk meaningful and relevant to everyone at Wise Europe

What you’ll bring:

  • You have worked in the financial services / banking / fintech sector and have a keen interest and proven experience in payment services, operational controls and reporting

  • You specialise in one or more subdomains of operational/non-financial risk but you are adaptable in managing operational risk both broadly across multiple risk domains.

  • While technology and security is covered directly by other roles within the team, given Wise is a technology-led company, an adeptness at understanding of technology risks and issues is a must.

  • The ability to think creatively when resolving problems and identify alternative approaches where established procedures may not exist

  • You are confident and credible in interactions with stakeholders and you are able to provide challenge, support and oversight of risk matters.

  • You are confident with conducting data analysis and data-driven problem solving and solutionising

  • Experience supporting risk assessments and/or operational risk event capture and analysis and finding new and innovative ways to do things.

What We Do

We’re making a positive, irreversible change in the world of finance. Together.

People on every continent around the world are choosing Wise to help them live, travel and work internationally. We’re the fairest, easiest way to send money overseas.

Built by and for people who live global lives, we make sending money abroad up to 8 times cheaper than the bank. This is money without borders - instant, convenient, transparent and eventually free.

For our customers, using Wise is as simple as sending money from A to B, but behind our app and website is a complex engine of currencies and routes, that’s being designed, built and powered by our talented teams in cities around the world.

We’re just at the beginning of our story and we’re growing at an incredible pace. We won’t stop until anyone, anywhere can send, spend and receive money wherever they are, whatever they’re doing. There’s still heaps to do and we can’t do it alone.

Why Work With Us

We are a mission-driven company, looking to change banking for the better. Current banking systems don’t let us send, spend or receive money across borders easily. Or quickly. Or cheaply. So, we’re building a new one. If you're looking for an autonomous work environment, where you'll face cool challenges, learn and grow, you'll like working at Wise
