Faculty members teach in both in-person and online modalities with a diverse student body. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong teaching abilities, a dedication to continued improvement as an educator, and alignment with the scholar-practitioner model. Experience teaching at the master’s level, developing on ground and online courses, and proven success in working with international students are desired attributes.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the broader applied artificial intelligence and machine learning fields and will possess experience working in industry such as pharmaceuticals/healthcare, finance, human resources, or business ventures. The ideal candidate will have a record demonstrating their expertise and engagement in applied artificial intelligence and machine learning fields as both a practitioner and instructor. Beyond the classroom, the candidate will engage in service to the department, college, and university, as well as professional development.

The position is a full-time, open rank, non-tenure track, renewable appointment located in Boston, MA.

Responsibilities:

This full-time faculty member is expected to bring her/his intellectual and creative capacity to bear in advancement of the program, seeking to serve students by participating in a range of teaching and non-teaching activities that support the advancement of the program. S/he will teach a full teaching load spread throughout the year and will work with the program office on administrative issues and programmatic projects.

Teaching & Curricular Oversight (60% of time)

  • Teaching core courses, such as Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, Usability and Human Interaction, AI System Technologies, as well as concentration courses in the areas of Applied Machine Intelligence in Finance, Business Ventures, Healthcare, or Human Resources.
  • In conjunction with the Program Lead, developing and implementing course learning outcomes, curriculum maps, resource guides, textbooks, syllabi templates, and updated course materials; includes region-specific coursework, including formative and summative assessment of student learning, fostering student success, and delivering an exceptional student learning experience.
  • Overseeing the instruction of specific courses within the curriculum. Responsibilities include supporting the Program Lead and Program Manager in the selection of instructors, advising on syllabi, and evaluating instructor performance.
  • Identifying and providing recommendations to keep curriculum relevant and industry leading.
  • Working with the Program Lead to ensure regional programs meet license/accreditation requirements and participate in comprehensive regional evaluations and periodic reviews.
  • In collaboration with the Program Lead, creating modularity guidelines and recommendations for program content integration across the programs and regional campuses.

Teaching and actual course load may vary with other responsibilities, which include, but are not limited to:
Program, Region, and College Support (20% of time)

  • Creating and supporting local events to add value to the experience of AMI students at the Boston campus, including events that connect students with local industry practitioners, associations, and employers.
  • Coordinating with the Program Lead and CPS leadership in the creation and management of local industry advisory boards as may be required.
  • Representing the program in regional orientations, open house events, and admitted student events.
  • Tracking the progress of AMI students in conjunction with campus staff, including academic advisors and other faculty members, to support student success.
  • Identifying and engaging possible co-op and experiential learning sponsors to establish relationships and define engagement.
  • Participating in program and faculty committee meetings as applicable.
  • Serving on committees that support the mission of the program and the vision of the College and wider University.
  • Support the definition of processes and best practices for leveraging professional networks within the region and among the private sector to create deeper connections between stakeholders.
  • Contribute to an interdisciplinary environment through active collaboration with faculty and staff across Northeastern's Global University network.

Faculty & Student Support (20% of time)

  • In coordination with the Program Lead, assess and enhance instructional quality of courses by offering follow-up coaching to part time faculty across the Northeastern network for courses assigned to him/her.
  • Collaborating with the Program Lead to recruit and vet qualified candidates for part time faculty positions.
  • Assisting the program in the onboarding of new part time faculty across the Northeastern network for courses assigned to him/her and maintaining ongoing communications and mentorship to gauge engagement within the program.
  • Providing opportunities for part time faculty to engage with program and college activities; seek their professional and curricular feedback.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong teaching abilities and a dedication to continued improvement as an educator. Experience teaching at the master’s level, teaching and developing on ground and online courses, and proven success in working with international students are desired attributes.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and characteristics:

  • A terminal degree from an accredited institution in computer science, statistics, analytics, data science, or a related field
  • 3+ years of professional experience in applied artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced analytics, or data science. Possessing knowledge about how to manage, analyze, communicate, visualize, and lead with artificial intelligence is a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication as well as presentation skills, with an ability to communicate technical concepts / solutions to external business partners, students, and other stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching at the graduate level, including online course development, facilitation, and innovative use of technology in support of learning
  • Experience mentoring students from a wide range of cultural and professional backgrounds
  • Fluency in R and Python as well as familiarity with commonly used tools and techniques in analytics (Tableau, Spark, SQL, etc.)
