Ciena’s Optical NPI team is looking for an experienced and dynamic Process Engineer to help deliver complex optical products from design through prototyping and into manufacturing.
The role / What you will do at Ciena:
The role involves working closely with the R&D and NPI teams to document product and process steps necessary for high quality and high-volume manufacturing of optical products.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership for process development and process stabilization for optical products
- Work with R&D and the Operations team to define production requirements and specifications of assembly process
- Develop process/tools and documentation to transition products into production
- Transitioning Design into Contract Manufacturer (CM)
- Continuous monitoring of manufacturing yield and product performance to ensure volume supply can meet business objectives
- Visit CMs on site to address training, product/quality and delivery issues
- Review DFMEA documents and provide input to design teams to improve design for production
- Debug manufacturing and performance issues to improve yield
- Support sustaining activities for product in production regarding DFM, PFMEA, yield & cost improvement
Requirements
This position requires a candidate with a strong, demonstrated record in the volume manufacturing of advanced optical/electronic products. This position will involve travel (at least 10% of the time) to support products during transfer to the CM and maintain the product in manufacture. Travel will be within North America as well as Asia.
Must haves
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Optical/Electrical/Mechanical/Production Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Optical/electronics/Manufacturing/process Engineering
- Ability to travel and work with diverse teams located across the globe in different time zones
- Demonstrated track record of launching complex optical/electronic products to market
- Prior experience with Work with cross functional teams and CMs around the world to support completing NPI tasks
- Ability to create and manage automated analysis tools and key performance indicators (KPIs)
Assets
- Experience and knowledge of SMT manufacturing is highly valued
- Prior experience of working with PON products is highly valued but not required
- Problem-solving, the ability to solve technical issues in a high-pressure environment and resolve issues locally as well as remotely
- Experience of working in a global marketplace
- Experience in interacting with multi-functional, multi-locational teams
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational and management skills
The annual pay range for this position is $88,600 - $141,500 CAD
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
