The Role

North Civils & Fibre Engineer

Base location:  Perth, Scotland
Salary: Up to £34,000 depending on experience + performance related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing
Working Pattern: Permanent Full time / Call-out and Overtime

Role Overview:

We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Structured Cabling Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing racks, containment systems, and terminating structured cabling. You will also conduct thorough testing to ensure the integrity and performance of the cabling systems. You will primarily work in Scotland, serving our critical infrastructure customer.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation: Install racks and containment systems with precision and attention to detail, ensuring installation to a high standard.

Termination: Terminate structured cabling, ensuring connections are reliable and meet industry standards.

Testing: Conduct fibre testing to verify the performance and quality of the cabling systems, identifying and resolving any issues that may arise.

Electrical Work: Perform electrical tasks as required, contributing to the overall functionality and safety of the infrastructure.

Supervision: Supervise contractors on-site, ensuring work is completed to the highest standards. Conduct audits to maintain quality and compliance.

Travel: Working in various locations throughout Scotland.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Installation: Assist with the installation of various cabling systems, including terminating and testing of Cat 6 copper and fibre optic systems.

Containment Systems: Install cabling containment systems.

Telecoms Racks: Install telecoms racks.

Supervision: Supervise civils and cabling contractors.

Compliance: Ensure that any signing, lighting, guarding, and traffic control measures required are set out correctly and in accordance with Chapter 8 of the NRSWA.

Material Handling: Ensure all materials used comply with the appropriate specifications and are stored and handled correctly.

Reinstatement: Ensure the reinstatement of disturbed areas is completed in accordance with the relevant specifications.

Reactive Call-Out Team: Be a member of the reactive call-out team.

Safety: Be responsible for personal safety at all times.

Audits: Undertake audits in accordance with the company’s policies.

Requirements:

Experience in rack and containment installation & in fibre installation, splicing, and testing.

NRSWA Operator/Supervisor certification.

Knowledge of working in Substation/CDM environments.

Full driving licence.

Great problem solving skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent customer service ethic and skills.

Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative & to stay calm under pressurised conditions.

Desirable but no essential:

Electrical qualification or experience.
