Fantastic opportunity to join FNZ's growing team and support the continued development of the North American CIO technology function. The role of the Junior Network Engineer requires practical experience and network engineering skills.  The successful candidate will require knowledge in network design fundamentals and network routing, switching, firewalling, load balancing and Azure/Cloud networking along with excellent network diagnosis. In this position, you will be given the opportunity to develop and grow your own knowledge of all things Cloud, Azure and Networking, whilst being given training and support to further your career. 

Specific Role Responsibilities:

  • Availability:  ensure the network design is resilient to failure to maximize availability

  • Performance:  Ensure networks are monitored and that any performance problems/faults are to mitigated to ensure minimal performance impact

  • Information Security: ensure compliance with security policies and controls

  • Disaster Recovery:  ensure the network is capable of delivering services in the event of a disaster.  Ensure DR plans, network diagrams are tested and kept up to date.

  • Training: prepare and carry out in-house network training. Develop professional and technical knowledge and skills via networking, seminars and other forms of training in order to meet Continuing Professional Development requirements.

  • Project Work:  work on projects to ensure network impacts are considered as part of the new systems rollouts.

  • Budget:  follow the approval process; reduce costs per transaction; innovation in costs.

Additional Role Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the project conducts a post implementation review and that lessons learned are captured and shared with the rest of the community.

  • Ensure a culture of continuous improvement on the project, support process improvement initiatives, and identify new process improvements.

  • Is an active member of the IT community, contributing to team sessions and central improvement initiatives, and sharing best practice and lessons learned.

Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience (university projects may be considered for outstanding junior candidates) 

  • A knowledge of and passion for Azure Cloud Networking

  • Knowledge of OSPF and BGP

Knowledge of the following tools would be desirable

  • Checkpoint Firewalls versions R80/R81

  • Fortinet FortiGate Next Generation Firewalls

  • Megaport / Equinix Fabric
