General Purpose of Job:

Under minimal direction, facilitates the efficient operation and advanced design, support, and implementation of network systems across the enterprise; includes installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all local and wide area network connections, associated software, and communication links; troubleshoot advanced network performance issues; analyze network traffic and provide capacity planning solutions; performs other systems related work as required.

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Typically has more than 8 – 10 years of professional experience in Information Systems including 8+ years in network administration.
  • Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience or an equivalent combination of education and 8 years experience in network support or engineer capacity.
  • Typically has one or more certifications. Example certifications include, but not limited to: (CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network, MCSA, MCSE, CCENT, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CISSP)

  • Leads the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive enterprise-wide information network policies, strategies, and systems that provide connectivity to the organization in accordance with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Independently plans conduct and supervises assignments. Reviews progress and evaluate results that may have a major bearing on the conduct of the organization’s business.
  • Supports & mentors Network Administrators for the purpose of providing direction and/or solving technical problems.
  • Functions as a technical lead in the planning, design, direction, and technical expertise regarding the computer, network resources, and services for both LAN’s and WAN’s.
  • Leads complex high-profile projects and network design tasks in which changes or additions to the network infrastructure are required.
  • Possesses the ability to troubleshoot problems with network connectivity and performance as well as have detailed knowledge of routing, wireless, and switch configuration and protocols, firewall configuration, protocols and rules, and VoIP technologies.
  • Coordinates with other resources, departments, organizations, and agencies as needed.
  • Serves as a technical resource and technical escalation point in regards to the Driscoll Health Systems network.
  • Evaluate, design, install, maintain and configure network infrastructure components, wireless infrastructure, switches and routers; confer with vendors on software and hardware technical issues.
  • Maintains the integrity of the security of the Driscoll Health Systems network including password access, file access, intruder access, and protection against viruses and SPAM.
  • Create and implement policies, procedures and programs for network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory, related documentation, and technical specifications to improve or supplement network infrastructure.
  • Monitor system capacity to determine its effect on performance and recommend enhancements to meet new or changing network demands.
  • Reads technical journals and attends seminars and workshops to learn about new developments and changing technology trends; may participate in testing new vendor provided software in a test environment for possible use by the organization.
  • Maintains contacts with vendors of software, hardware or communication equipment; attends product demonstrations and/or arranges to acquire and install system upgrades.
  • Performs other related work as required.
