The Network Engineer IIIWi-Fi will play a critical role in maintaining the availability, security, and efficiency of our Wi-Fi infrastructure for QTS’ internal and external customers. This engineer will be required to evaluate, deploy, and maintain Wi-Fi management hardware and software. This individual will be a part of a larger Network and Network Security team and the ideal candidate has expertise in Wi-Fi technology, advanced routing and switching, network security, and operational/program management. This engineer will also serve as QTS’ main point of contact for Wi-Fi related issues at our data centers and respond with exceptional customer service to the site teams and with a sense of urgency. Further, trending of issues and monitoring of service health and availability is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned.

  • Design, implement, and manage Wi-Fi infrastructure to provide high availability as a service provider to internal and external QTS customers across a large portfolio of state of the art data centers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues promptly, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. Platforms include but are not limited to Cisco Nexus, Cisco Catalyst, Palo Alto NGFW, SDWAN technologies.
  • Collaborate with QTS InfoSec teams to develop, test, and refine network security solutions for our wireless technologies
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain Wi-Fi platforms and appliances, staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and best practices in the field.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in advanced routing and switching protocols, optimizing network traffic flow, minimizing latency, and maximizing network performance.
  • Design and implement complex network topologies, ensuring seamless integration of various network components while adhering to security and scalability standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define network requirements for new projects, ensuring alignment with business goals and network best practices.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in Wi-Fi and networking, and apply this knowledge to enhance the organization's Wi-Fi infrastructure.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide timely support for network emergencies and incidents.
  • Demonstrate current industry knowledge as it pertains to the following; Management of peering/IX/NAP issues, a proficient level of understanding in contemporary network architectures, networking security protocols/procedures, and network scaling/capacity issues.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering or related degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Five or more years of progressive operational experience in network engineering
  • Five or more years of experience managing WLAN platforms
  • Expertise in networking concepts and protocols such as: 802.11a, 802.11b, etc. 802.1X, WiFI 6/7, BGP, OSPF, VLAN/VXLAN, STP, HSRP/VRRP, IPv4/IPv6 subnetting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Data Center Experience
  • Ansible and/or NetDevOps experience
  • Relevant network engineering certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, JNCIE
  • Service provider experience, preferably in a Data Center environment.
  • Advanced skill level with networking operating systems, such as Cisco iOS, iOS-XR, and/or Nexus OS (NX-OS)

  • Strong communication skills. Ability to convey technical requirements and concepts, commensurate to one's level, to technical and non-technical clients and corporate audience.
  • Excellent written and oral communications, problem solving and process management skills.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment in a matrixed organization.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with all levels of the organization.
