Cloud Engineer (Data & Network)

Job location: Bedford or London

The Position

We are seeking a skilled Cloud Engineer with a strong background in network architecture and data management to join our data technology team. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure solutions that support our data-driven applications and platforms. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our cloud-based networks and systems.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities: 

• Design, implement, and manage scalable and secure cloud infrastructures on Azure hosted platforms.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and implement cloud-based solutions that meet network and data needs.
• Optimise and manage network configurations to ensure optimal performance and low latency for cloud-hosted applications.
• Configure and manage cloud database services to support data storage, retrieval, and analytics.
• Monitor cloud infrastructure and network performance, implementing strategies for improvements or scaling as needed.
• Implement security best practices for cloud architecture, focusing on data protection and access controls.
• Automate deployment processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar technologies.
• Troubleshoot network and data-related issues in the cloud environment, ensuring timely resolution and documentation of incidents.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in cloud computing, network technologies, and data management.

Knowledge and Experience: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Demonstrable experience in cloud engineering or a similar role, with a focus on network design and data management.
• Strong knowledge of cloud service providers (Azure) and their networking capabilities.
• Experience with cloud-based database services (e.g., Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud BigQuery).
• Proficiency in scripting and automation languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
• Familiarity with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or Docker.
• Understanding of networking concepts, including VPNs, VPC, DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

• Strong technical background in data services, including Azure Databricks.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices for efficient deployment and management of data services.
• Relevant Azure, Networking or data management certifications.
