Core Experience builds foundations that other teams can use, but we also use those foundations ourselves by having a vertical integration into the system. Being part of our team means you can improve any part of our system, and you have impact across every team.
You will work with the Engineering Manager, Product Manager and the rest of the engineering team to plan, build, release and maintain high quality software. You will be the primary driver of the system architecture, technical direction and team member’s technical skill development. At Anchorage Digital, we believe the product is never "done," we can always do better! When you join Anchorage, we expect you to drive our products forward by developing novel solutions for our institutional clients. As a team, we are constantly striving to innovate in order to build the future of cryptocurrency and the digital asset ecosystem.
We have created the Factors of Growth & Impact to help Villagers better measure impact and articulate coaching, feedback, and the rich and rewarding learning that happens while exploring, developing, and mastering the capabilities and contributions within and outside of the Tech Lead role:
Technical Skills:
- Create and maintain shared services and libraries that are used across our entire services.
- Review code across the engineering organization while actively participating in product development.
- Find simple solutions to complex software problems.
- Efficiently implement high quality code (functional, performant, clear, concise and well tested).
- Production support. Participate in the on-call rotation and troubleshoot, mitigate and learn from production incidents to reduce their incidence.
- Drive down technical complexity, refactor existing systems safely. Leave the codebase better than you found it.
Complexity and Impact of Work:
- Lead large, strategic, ambiguous and complex projects that can be broken down into smaller achievable pieces.
- Find the right balance between progress (i.e. shipping quickly) and perfection (i.e. measuring twice).
- Foster an efficient deterministic testing culture, with an emphasis on conrolling tech debt.
- Articulate effectively different options considered in projects, analyzing trade-offs and recommending priorities.
- Help define the technical strategy of the team.
Organizational Knowledge:
- Ensures that knowledge is shared among the team and does not position themselves or others as a single point of failure.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with the Core Experience team and other teams at Anchorage Digital.
- Help scale the team.
Communication and Influence:
- Mentor and guide multiple engineers on the team within their area of specialization or domain, and help others understand the strategic goals and how their work relates to these.
- Able to communicate with different people, with different contexts and expertise.
- Influence architecture/product roadmap - have a seat at the table.
You may be a fit for this role, if you:
- Have 8+ years of professional experience building backend services.
- Have designed, delivered and maintained customer facing APIs.
- Have experience designing, building and deploying cloud native micro-services.
- Are passionate about building automated tests alongside your features.
- Enjoy building services from scratch and supporting them over a meaningful period of time.
- Have a genuine interest and pride in code quality and infrastructure.
- Have experience performing on-call support for production systems.
- Prioritize end-user experience and business value over “cool tech.”
- Developed “computer science fundamentals”, i.e. algorithms, data structures and operating systems (Formal CS degree NOT required).
- Have real world experience building complex distributed systems.
- Believe software engineering is a team activity and enjoy collaborating every single day, learning from and mentoring others.
- You enjoy working closely with the product team to ship the best solution in a reasonable amount of time.
Although not a requirement, bonus points if you:
- Have professional experience with C++ or Go, Kubernetes, GraphQL API design and implementation and/or gRPC API design and implementation.
- Have experience with system security (e.g. authentication, authorization, identity, API keys).
- Have a background in the finance or cryptocurrency industries.
- You were emotionally moved by the soundtrack to Hamilton, which chronicles the founding of a new financial system :)
