The Mechanical Engineering Intern is responsible for investigating, developing, and implementing mechanical solutions for our PCR instrument.   The incumbent will have opportunities to learn engineering tools like CAD design and thermal simulation/analysis. 

This position is part of the Mechanical Engineering Systems R&D organization and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA (on-site). At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Define, design, test, develop, and validate new product(s). 
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and independently research/develop complicated engineering problems.
  • Present technical data, including risks/opportunities to a multi-functional audience. 

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related engineering major) with a general understanding of thermodynamics. 
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks design or similar CAD software. 
  • Familiarity with 3D printing and general prototyping processes like CNC machining

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Familiarity with Ansys Discovery/Fluent.
  • Familiarity with testing equipment in a thermal environmental chamber.

The hourly range for this role is $28.00-30.00. This is the rate that we in good faith believe is the rate of compensation for this role at the time of this posting.
