Role Summary
Magna New Mobility is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Mechanical Engineer to join our cutting-edge New Mobility group in Lowell, Massachusetts. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the mechanical development of autonomous mobile robotics (AMR) projects, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to design, test, and launch next-generation robotic solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical System Design: Develop mechanical architectures, sub-system requirements, and component designs for AMR/robotic systems.


  • Modeling & Documentation: Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and electromechanical interface documentation, including DFMEA analysis, GD&T and tolerance stack analysis.


  • Structural & Thermal Analysis: Apply first-order and CAE techniques to evaluate structural integrity, vibration, thermal performance, and material selection.


  • Electromechanical Integration: Design and integrate mechanical components, electromechanical actuators, PCBAs, and sensors (e.g., LiDAR, cameras).


  • Prototyping & Testing: Build, modify, and validate prototype samples, as well as test mechanical requirements at both the component and assembly level.


  • Manufacturing & Production Support: Ensure designs are optimized for low to high-volume manufacturing and support production ramp-up.


  • Test Equipment & Fixture Development: Assist in fabricating test setups for engineering and validation purposes.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).


  • 3+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design, development, and testing of robotic or mechatronic systems (AMRs, AGVs, etc.).


  • Experience with industry-standard CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)


  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) methodologies for low-to-high volume production.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with mechanical structures, electromechanical actuators, and sensor integration.


  • Expertise in mechanical analysis techniques, including first-order and CAE simulations.


  • Experience with thermal management and electronic assembly design.


  • Proficiency in rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and machining techniques.


  • Knowledge of engineering change management processes and PLM tools (e.g. Teamcenter)


  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
