General Description:
We are looking for someone who will excel working on a multi-disciplinary engineering team in a research and development environment. The individual will perform mechanical design for cryogenic systems in collaboration with multiple stakeholders to meet a wide array of technical requirements. Individual will be responsible for mechanical engineering across the entire design process including initial design, fabrication, final system assembly and validation. Additionally, they will carry out thermal analysis and hands on in lab testing to inform design choices. The ideal candidate has strong technical problem-solving skills and can adapt to a quickly changing environment.
Essential Duties:
Design mechanical parts, create drawings for machining and coordinate part fabrication
Complete thermal and mechanical analysis of new low-temperature test systems including hand calculations and finite element analysis studies
Plan and execute thermal and mechanical tests in lab
Communicate outcomes of design, analysis and testing to broader technical team
Required Skills:
Experience in mechanical design using CAD software (e.g. Solidworks) and making mechanical part drawings for machining is required.
General experience with programming languages, finite element analysis such as ANSYS and hands-on testing is desired.
Individual should have understanding of circuits, heat transfer and related material properties.
Candidate should have strong technical communication skills.
Previous engineering work experience in research and development, a university lab or equivalent is desired.
Required Education:
Bachelors or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline. Coursework in heat transfer and mechanical design desired
Physical Requirements:
Able to work at a desk standing or sitting for long periods of time. Able to work safely in a laboratory environment
Special Requirements:
Must have U.S. citizenship
Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position $76,530 - $93,320 + bonus + benefits.
