Job Description:
Summary:
The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing mechanical engineering and related technical expertise. The work will primarily serve mining and heavy industrial clients. Project work may include industrial system design related to fluid transfer, bulk material handling, and plant layout; preparing design/construction drawings and specifications; completing engineering calculations and analyses; selecting equipment and components; writing technical reports; preparing sketches for system arrangement; developing details of designs; and preparing cost estimates and bid packages. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town trips.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university

5+ years of related work experience

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification or ability to obtain within one year

Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Strong writing ability

Willingness to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative

Demonstrated project organization and management skills
-
Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs

Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship

Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Ltd., now or in the future or the ability to obtain a TN Visa

Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:

10+ years of working on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial workplace

Experience with Revit and/or Solidworks software
-
Experience directing the work of CAD designers
-
Experience with AFT Fathom and/or Caesar II software

Client service aptitude and experience
-
Experience working directly with clients
-
Proven experience involving industrial equipment, pumping/piping systems, gas handling systems, HVAC, dust collection, plumbing, slurry/paste handling, and/or other relevant mechanical systems

Demonstrated project or task management skills
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Calgary, Alberta, or Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, offices.
NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
