Company Description

Te Tākinatanga | Our Story

Contact Energy is a prominent gentailer, a term that combines "generator" and "retailer." As a gentailer, Contact Energy is involved in both the production and sale of electricity, providing a seamless integration of energy generation and retail services. This dual role allows us to manage the entire energy supply chain, from generating power through our various sources (hydro, geothermal, and thermal), to delivering it directly to consumers. By controlling both ends of the spectrum, Contact Energy can offer competitive pricing, ensure reliability, and drive innovation in sustainable energy solutions.

The Major Projects team plays a crucial role in driving the company's strategic initiatives and large-scale projects. The team focuses on delivering complex infrastructure and renewable energy projects, ensuring they align with Contact Energy's commitment to sustainability and innovation. Their work is pivotal in advancing Contact Energy's goals of providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions to New Zealand.

Based in the beautiful Taupo region and reporting to the Head of Procurement and Contracts (some of us call her Lauren), we're looking for a Materials Manager to work alongside buyers, coordinators and the project team as the kaitiaki (or guardian) of getting critical equipment from supplier to site.

Job Description

As our Materials Manager, you'll be the linchpin in the development, construction, and commissioning phases, ensuring every piece of equipment and material arrives on time and in perfect condition. You'll manage the expediting, receipting, storage, and distribution of materials, working closely with suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs representatives.

Your role will also involve coordinating with Project Engineers to provide timely updates on delivery schedules and ensuring all materials are preserved correctly before issuance. Your expertise will be crucial in implementing an inventory management system and overseeing procurement of spare parts and specialty tooling.

In this role, you'll be part of a whānau that takes immense pride in delivering high-quality projects. You'll be a self-starter, highly motivated, and outcome-driven, ensuring everything is delivered on time and within budget. Communication is key, and you'll excel in connecting the dots and providing clear, concise updates under pressure. You'll understand that it takes a village to complete a project, and you'll be a team player, always ready to lend a hand and offer constructive feedback. Your respect for your peers and colleagues will help foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.

We'll be honest, given the nature of the projects there are some early starts (6am) but generally the team kicks off the mahi from around 7am, but there's some flex there depending on how the project's tracking.

Join us and be a part of something truly special, where your skills and dedication will make a significant impact.

Qualifications

To thrive in this role, you'll bring a wealth of experience and a passion for excellence and wealth of experience in material management and logistics, ideally within large-scale projects.

Your ability to build and maintain relationships, coupled with excellent organizational skills, will be key to your success. Even if you don't tick every box, we encourage you to apply – we value diverse perspectives and are committed to supporting your growth and development.

  • Large scale industrial construction project experience
  • Extensive material management experience and/or qualifications.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Renowned communicator with the ability to clearly convey complex information.
  • Project Management, Supply Chain Management or an Engineering background is advantageous

Additional Information

This is an initial two year fixed term contract to align with the completion of the projects you'll be working on (although we have more projects in the pipeline) and we’re keen to welcome a new Materials Manager soon so if this sounds like a bit of you, apply now, or if there’s something you’re curious to know before making it official, contact Ben Francis on [email protected].

Applications for this role close 5pm Wednesday the 9th of April.

Please note, only candidates with the right to live and work in New Zealand will be considered for this role.

Research shows that while men apply to jobs where they meet 60% of the criteria, women and those in underrepresented groups tend to only apply if they tick every box. We're not about box ticking, so if you think you have what it takes but don't meet everything stated above, please still get in touch. We'd love to kōrero.
