Job Description
Many improvement measures exist in a refrigerant circuit that can enhance the coefficient of performance, such as vapor injection, multi-stage compression or liquid fed evaporators. Some of these measures require a component in the refrigerant system that separates a two-phase (vapor-liquid) mixture into pure vapor and pure liquid. This component is called a liquid-gas-separator (LGS).
The structures within the LGS direct the flow, causing liquid droplets to collect at the bottom for extraction, while vapor is drawn out from the top, maintaining a constant liquid level within the LGS.
In vehicle applications, the primary requirement for the design of LGS is to minimize its size while maintaining a high level of separation efficiency.
- During your assignment, you will develop the simulation workflow to simulate the two-phase flow within the LGS.
- You will design the experimental setup to validate the observations in the simulations.
- Furthermore, you will conduct and evaluate measurements and interpret the results.
- Last but not least, you will compare the simulation and experimental results.
Qualifications
- Education: master studies in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Process Engineering, Automotive Engineering or comparable
- Experience and Knowledge: with numerical simulations (e.g. CFD, FEM, …) and measurements
- Personality and Working Practice: high motivation for practical work and curiosity
- Languages: good in German or English
