About the Role: As a Manager Underwriting, Prestige, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our underwriting team. You will lead by example, inspiring and building a highly effective and engaged team capable of meeting both current and future needs. Your expertise will help us refine our leadership strategies, optimize our organizational structure, and implement cutting-edge process and technology improvements.

What You'll Do:

  • Leadership: Inspire and develop a talented team, ensuring they are fully engaged and capable of achieving our business goals.

  • Strategic Development: Recommend and implement innovative leadership strategies and process improvements.

  • Communication: Keep your team informed on initiatives and results, sharing responsibility for overall team performance and engagement.

  • Accountability: Focus on what truly matters to achieve our business objectives, seeking solutions and driving results.

  • Change Management: Challenge the status quo with a positive attitude, energizing your team to embrace change.

  • Relationship Building: Develop strong, respectful relationships with our Brokers through clear communication and active participation in achieving results.

  • Vision: Contribute to the strategic vision of the corporate underwriting team for the successful implementation of Prestige product initiatives nationwide.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments including Corporate PL, Corporate CL, Sales and Business Development, and Marketing to ensure alignment of Prestige products and communications.

  • Underwriting Excellence: Develop, maintain, and monitor underwriting rules and practices specific to Prestige, ensuring compliance with corporate guidelines.

  • Performance Monitoring: Oversee underwriting activities, conduct audits, make recommendations, and ensure the implementation of best practices.

  • Employee Development: Support your team’s growth, ensuring adequate succession planning and promoting knowledge transfer among underwriters.

  • Best Practices: Initiate and uphold best practices to achieve and maintain outstanding results.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Education: University degree preferred, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.

  • Experience: A minimum of 8 to 10 years of relevant experience (we are open to considering slightly less experience for the right candidate).

  • Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of personal lines products and systems; knowledge of the High-Net-Worth segment is a plus.

  • Professional Designation: Chartered Insurance Professional designation is an asset.

  • Leadership Skills: Ability to influence, motivate, and drive change within your team. Set clear objectives and manage multiple initiatives and deadlines.

  • Industry Insight: Monitor competitive practices and industry trends, making strategic recommendations.

  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills to foster relationships at all organizational levels.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable expressing your opinion and adapting to changes in direction.

  • Organizational Skills: Excellent planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Relationship Management: Maintain professional and effective business and personal relationships by promoting mutual understanding and trust.

  • Travel: Possess a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record (regular travel involved for broker visits).

  • Eligibility: Must be eligible to work in Canada; no prior Canadian work experience required.
