As a Manager of Trading Analytics, you will have the unique opportunity to lead a team of analysts responsible for researching market design and grid operations, analyzing trends, and recommending strategies to optimize PGE's energy portfolio. You will manage PGE's participation in the market through development of optimization model inputs and market performance monitoring to achieve corporate objectives. A successful candidate will have advanced knowledge of the electric utility industry, energy markets, and grid reliability requirements, coupled with strong analytical thinking skills and the ability to drive results. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Trading Analytics Management - Manages a team of analysts responsible for researching market design and grid operations, analyzing trends and recommending new or changed products or strategies and needed changes to PGE operational systems to optimize PGE's energy portfolio and grid operations; provides technical management for the team, ensuring that objectives are met and all relevant standards/procedures are followed; ensures that operational problems are identified and resolved; ensures that operational procedures and working practices are current and fit for the purpose.

Program Management - Manages PGE's participation in the market through development of optimization model inputs and market performance monitoring to achieve corporate objectives. Sets priorities and goals for trading analysts to ensure success in the traded markets.

Contractor Oversight - Communicates with vendors to establish expectations for the effects of impending market change on their product(s).

Consultation - Consults with company management and other departments/functions on bidding strategies and the impact of market changes on operational processes and performance. Provides strategic solutions to market issues, meeting all requirements, applicable codes and regulatory requirements in a cost-effective, timely manner that follows sound business practices.

Compliance - Serves as compliance owner for NERC PER-003 and PER-005 standards.

Financial Management - Monitors and manages expenditures, ensuring that all financial targets are met, and examines any areas where budgets/expenditures vary from plan; assists with the definition and operation of effective financial controls and decision making.

Resourcing - Oversees resourcing decisions and planning for team; partners with HR in the definition of jobs, recruitment, evaluation and selection processes.

Professional Development - Reviews organizational development needs and training strategies to determine required learning and development outcomes for the team; provides guidance in the creation of development plans; monitors ongoing progress and provides coaching and mentoring and provides feedback; completes annual performance management reviews.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS

Education

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a technical field, e.g., engineering, physics, mathematics, finance, economics or computer programming; a master's degree is desirable or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Prefer eight or more years in some combination of trading, structuring, research, analysis, engineering, programming, design and/or modeling.

  • Advanced knowledge of the electric utility industry and electric energy markets, including trading, scheduling procedures, state and federal policies and regulations and underlying physical infrastructure and networks.

  • Advanced knowledge of traded commodity markets like electric bulk power generation, transmission and other commodity markets that impact the cost of electricity.

  • Advanced knowledge of grid reliability requirements and operations.

  • Advanced knowledge of wholesale electric, gas and other commodities' market fundamentals, including equilibrium pricing principles.

  • Advanced knowledge of commodities in energy market derivatives (e.g., forwards, options, swaps), including market pricing and valuation principles.

  • Advanced knowledge of programming languages such as VB/VBA, C, Perl, Matlab, Mathematica, Python, Java and SQL.

  • Advanced computer skills in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and analytics programs.

  • Basic knowledge of regulated utility accounting principles.

  • Advanced knowledge of FERC Standards of Conduct compliance.

  • Advanced knowledge of learning technologies.

  • Advanced knowledge of industry best practices.

  • Advanced mathematical and analytical skills, including calculus, linear algebra, mixed integer programming, probability and multivariate statistics, real analysis, numerical analysis and operations research.

  • Advanced ability to think across multiple functional areas, e.g., Power Operations, Balancing Authority, Generation and Rates and Regulatory impacts.

Compensation Range:

$130,900.00 - $243,100.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
