Job Summary
Altice USA is a leading provider of Mobile, Broadband (DOCSIS, Fiber) and Video services in the United States. The Product Development organization is responsible for the technology enablement and development of these technologies for our customers.
Reporting to the Director of Mobile Apps Engineering the Engineering Manager - Android role will manage a team of highly skilled Android developers to build best-in-class mobile app experience.
We are looking for an Engineering Manager with expertise in Android mobile applications to lead a high-performing engineering team. This role requires a blend of technical depth, leadership skills, and a strong ability to manage and scale engineering teams. You will guide the development of our Android applications, ensuring high-quality code, timely delivery, and continuous improvement in both the engineering practices and the product.
Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the creation of our strategy for Mobile app development at Altice USA.
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of new features and improvements, ensuring the best engineering practices are followed.
  • Ensure that mobile apps are reliable, scalable, and maintainable, with high standards for code quality, test coverage, and user experience.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other teams to deliver high-quality solutions within the required timelines and ensure the app meets business needs and user expectations.
  • Continuously stay up to date with the latest trends in Android development and ensure the team adopts modern technologies, tools, and methodologies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the team, focusing on technical debt reduction, code reviews, and automated testing.
  • Ensure mobile apps deliver excellent performance and meet quality standards across devices.
  • Foster a culture of high-quality engineering practices, including test-driven development, code reviews, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Monitor and improve app stability, performance, and user experience based on feedback and analytics.
  • Guide the team in estimating, tracking, and delivering tasks efficiently, ensuring smooth execution of projects.
  • Create a structured knowledge base that allows the team to create, maintain and extend documentation for all our developer tools and processes.
  • Use prototypes and proof of concepts as the primary tool for deep and detailed explorations of architecture and software designs.
  • Prioritize and eliminate technical debt.
  • Go-to advocate for Android mobile app development in the organization, promoting best practices and standards.
  • Owns 2+ scrums with accountability for the results.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience as a professional Android developer shipping native Android apps with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • In-depth expertise in Android development principles, including proficiency with Kotlin, Java, and Android Studio.
  • Strong experience with designing and developing user interfaces (UIs) using modern Android frameworks and libraries (e.g., Jetpack Compose).
  • Solid understanding of mobile app lifecycle, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and manage a diverse team of engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to balance technical depth with a focus on team culture, process improvement, and business objectives.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to navigate complex challenges in fast-paced environments.
  • Proven experience managing engineering teams and leading cross-functional projects.
  • Passion for mobile development and a desire to learn and grow.
  • Experience with data analytics platforms such as Google Analytics and Adobe Omniture to track user behavior and measure application performance.
  • Experience with integrating third-party video player solutions (Nagra, VisualOn, Exoplayer) into Android applications.
  • Experience with implementing anti-tampering solutions (DexGuard, Nagra KOP4J) to ensure application integrity.
  • Experience with Firebase App Check and Google play integrity for securing client-server communication.
  • Experience with implementing customer feedback programs such as Qualtrics.

This position is identified as being performed in/or reporting to company operations in New York State. Salary ranges are supplied in compliance with New York State law. Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate/range at time of hire for this position in the posted location is $133,661.00 - $219,586.00 / year. The rate/range provided herein is the anticipated pay at the time of hire, and does not reflect future job opportunity.
